Born April 8, 1946 in DeQueen, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Fred and Naomi Mathes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Marsha Thacker Mathes, his son Daniel ''Danny'' Carl Mathes Jr (Gwen) of Richwood, TX and his daughter Amy Mathes Broussard of Richwood, TX. Grandchildren: Emily Perry of Clute, TX, Kayla Wheeler (James) of Brazoria, TX, Nicole Mathes (Dylan Spillers) of Clute, TX and Michael Mathes (Torie) of Richwood, TX and Great Grandchildren: Gabriel, Jayce and Malia Wheeler; Chloe and Zoe Mathes. Brother-in-law: Tom Thacker (Belinda) and his sweet dog Mac.
Dan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed camping and just being outdoors. His other passion was spending time with family and friends. Dan never met a stranger and was always bumping into long lost classmates, friends or former co-workers. He enjoyed restoring old vehicles and was a superior welder.
A brief graveside service will be held at Gulf Prairie Cemetery in Jones Creek on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 10:00am with David Jordan officiating.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity in his honor.

R.I.P. Dan, I have lost of memories with u in it since u were one of my daddy's (Mike ) long time friends. I will cherish them greatly. I know u r sitting up there now with ur family, but keep an eye on us down here. We all need an angel in heaven. Daddy was sad to hear the news but knows u are not in pain anymore. And he says, he will you soon brother!!
