Delton W. Martin

Delton W. Martin, of Clute, TX, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015, at the age of 88. He was born January 20, 1927 in Joaquin, TX , to WB and Annie Bell English Martin.


Drafted right out of high school, he served in the Army during WWII, mostly in the Philippines. After service, he went to work for SW Bell, now AT&T, and retired from there after 32 years of employment. He spent his early retirement years raising his beautiful vegetable garden that strangers and some school classes would come to admire. He loved to hunt and fish and did both until he lost his eyesight in 2000.


He was a proud 58 year member of the Free Masons and was a Past Master of the Clute Masonic Lodge # 1334. He was liked by all that met him and enjoyed many 50 plus year friendships.


D.W. was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Garland Martin; first wife and mother of his children, Mary White Martin; and daughter, Kathleen Clarke.


He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jan Martin; sons, Tony Martin (Brenda), of Clute, TX, Bruce Martin (Cheryl), of Austin,TX; grandson, (his pride and joy) Casey Martin, of Dallas, TX; grandson, Sha Clarke; granddaughter Rachel Martin, of Austin, TX; great-grandson, Caleb Clarke; brothers, John B. Martin (Joyce), and Gordon Martin (JoAnn), of Joaquin, TX; sisters-in-law, Dolores Brown and Mary Martin; and many nieces and nephews that he loved so much.


Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m., including a Masonic Service.


Serving as honorary pallbearers will be J.R. Allen, Joseph Allen, Ed Kutach, Ronald Martin, Harold Thomas, Russell Martin, Ricky Martin, Richard Spencer, and John Allen.


In lieu of flowers please make donations to The Shriners' Hospital at 815 Market Street, Galveston, TX 77550.

Couldn't ask for more good memories then Uncle Shorty provided. If I had a nickel for every time he made me laugh, I would be very rich! I especially love him for just calling to "check" at the right times. Loved him very much... Rest in peace Uncle Short!
