Elizabeth Ann Lander
2/1/1929 - 6/25/2016

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Mathew 28:19 Elizabeth Ann Stewart Lander, 87, of Lake Jackson, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on June 25, 2016 as a result of cancer. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her death. Elizabeth was born on February 1, 1929, in North Zulch, Texas, to W.M. Stewart and Amanda Mae McGill. Elizabeth's only sibling, Matt Sunday Stewart, was ten years older than she, so she grew up in a small town as the apple of everyone's eye. Elizabeth's mother died in 1944, when many young men, including her brother, left for World War II, leaving Elizabeth and her father alone. In high school, Elizabeth was Valedictorian of her class, earning a full scholarship to Sam Houston State Teachers' College; however, she chose to attend Tyler Commercial College, where she met James "Bo" Lander, who was attending Tyler Jr. College, and they married in 1949. After Bo graduated, they moved to Houston, where he graduated from The University of Houston in 1950. He accepted a job with Brazosport ISD, and they moved to Lake Jackson where they have resided for the past 65 years. Almost immediately upon moving, Elizabeth began attending First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, Mission Friends, Training Union, and served on The Bereavement Committee, but her true passion was the Women's Missionary Union, where she studied how to more effectively spread the word of Christ through missions. She was a leader in this organization for over sixty years. The other love of Elizabeth's life was her family. She was an amazing mother to her four daughters and her son. She really enjoyed celebrating all special occasions. Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 66 years, James "Bo" Lander; her daughter Laurie Pessarra and husband Jim and children, Kris and wife Stephanie of Dallas, TX, Ryan and wife Janice of Forney, TX, Matt and wife Kristi of Rochester, MN, and Stewart and wife Krista of Pearland; daughter Lisa Berg of Newton, NJ and husband Gerry and children, Emily and husband Ryan Gerads of Sartell, MN, Brett and wife Rachael Berg of Gambrills, MD, and Alison and husband Thommy Deeney of Sparta, NJ; daughter Leslie and husband Alan Kaplan of Sherman, CT and daughter Sophie Cole of Houston; her son James Lander Jr. and wife Sherri of College Station, TX and children James Lander III and wife Laura of Plano, TX, Madeleine Lander of San Francisco, CA, David Lander of Denton, TX, Tonya Barnes and husband Charles of Somerville, TX, and Dylan Brinkman and wife Hayley of Somerville, TX; daughter Amanda Durham and husband Doug of Franklin, TN and children, Doug Jr. and Maggie. Her life ambition was to honor Christ in all she did. She was very much loved. Services for Elizabeth will include a visitation will be at Lakewood Funeral Home in Clute, TX from 6-8 and the funeral will be held at The First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson at 10:00.
