Helen Olive Greer

Helen Olive Greer, 88 of Freeport passed away peacefully at The Revered Texan Hearth and Home in Lake Jackson, Texas on May 21, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Helen was born April 11, 1929 in Houston, and grew up in the Boling/New Gulf Texas area. She graduated from Boling High School, attended and graduated from Sam Houston State University and received a Master's degree from The University of Houston. During her life in Freeport, Helen enjoyed a successful career of 35 years as an elementary school teacher for the Brazosport Independent School District where she touched the lives of many children. She was also an active member of the local Delta Kappa Gamma Society, a member of the Brazosport Retired Teachers Association as well as a member of the choir at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Freeport. Helen is survived by her husband Dale married for 62 loving years along with her son David, and his wife Angela of Dallas, Texas; Her grandchildren John and wife Desiree of Kingwood, Texas, Amanda, Angelina and Allie of Dallas, Texas; Two nieces Gaelynn and husband Tommy Adkins, Judy and Husband Richard Young and nephew Tommy Franz all of North Carolina. Helen was preceded in death by her parents Guy and Verna Henry, sister Marylin and Husband Harvey Franz. The family sincerely thanks all our family, friends and neighbors' tireless support, especially, her lifelong friend Margaret, and friends Betty, Marcie, Mary and Gwen along with the great staff at the Revered Texan Hearth and Home and the dedicated members of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Pallbearers are John Greer, Joe Greer, Larry Monte, Lee Massoletti, Steve Massoletti and Leslie Massoletti. Honorary Pallbearers include Al Mayo, MJ Ardoin, Bill Demain, Junior Martinez, Salim Zabana, Bill Kidd and Lon Siddall. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Friday May 26, 2017 at Lakewood Funeral Home, 98 North Dixie Drive, Lake Jackson, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday May 27, 2017 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church 1307 West Fifth Street Freeport, Texas, the Rev. Robert Doyle officiating. Interment will follow at Restwood Memorial Park, Clute, Texas.
