James Richard Day

James Richard (Ricky) Day, 57, of Lake Jackson was called home Wednesday, March 14, 2018. He was born October 31, 1960 in Freeport, Texas to Joseph Richard Day and Tela Harkreader Day. He graduated from Brazosport High School in 1979 and went to Southwest Texas State and finished his degree at Brazosport College. Over the years he worked as a long shore man along with his Dad at the port of Freeport, several area contractors, Civil Mechanical Inc., Kelly Services and currently employed at Dow Chemical Company for the past 15˝ years as a Maintenance Technologist Leader and Contract Operations Department. Ricky was a member of the Freeport Jaycees where he served in several offices; Sons of the Republic of Texas; descendant of the Mayflower; Citizens of the Muscogee Creek Nation; Coastal Conservation Association; the Texas Navy Association. Ricky was an avid outdoors man all of his life. He loved to fish and hunt. He was the family historian and dedicated many hours into researching family history and compiled a book detailing our lineage. Ricky loved to read and was knowledgeable on just about every subject. To the delight of his family and friends, he played the perfect Santa each Christmas. He was very generous and caring and had a marvelous wit. He greeted everyone with a smile, kind words and a bear hug. He was a man with unquestionable integrity. He garnered the respect of all who knew him. We all have a Ricky story and they start and end with a smile. He happily devoted hundreds of hours serving his community and raising money for worthy causes. He will live in our hearts forever… We are all better people for knowing and loving Ricky Day. Ricky was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, William (Billy) Edward Day. He is survived by his sister, Trisha Day Closs, husband Monroe, of Jones Creek; his devoted nephew, Austin Marshall Day Closs of Jones Creek; step nephews, Matt Closs family and Ben Closs; his Aunt Kathy Jones and husband Jim of Waxahachie, Texas; Uncle Eddie Coufal of Helotes, Texas; and Uncle O. C. Farmer of Lake Jackson, Texas; along with numerous cousins, Farmer, Coufal, Picard and Harkreader families. The family will receive friends 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2018 at Family Life Church. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Family Life Church with Pastor Craig Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Restwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Austin Closs, Monroe Closs, Chris Kincheloe, Jeff Murray, Tim Lindsey, Benny Notgrass, Jay Tracey and Wes Kinkler. Honorary pall bearers are Alan Coufal, Charles Farmer, Stuart Farmer, Paul Picard and David, Ernie and Sam Harkreader. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to any charitable organization of your choice in his name.
