Donna Janet Cheever
8/12/1935 - 10/18/2014

Donna Cheever received her complete healing from cancer and went home to her Savior on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the age of 79. She was born August 12, 1935 in Quanah, Texas to Jack and Odessa Jarvis. She met and married the love of her life, Les Cheever, on January 24, 1954 in Henderson, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother, AJ Jarvis.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in laws: Karla Cheever; Tracy Cheever Grotte and husband, John; Dedee Cheever Willson and husband, Kirk. Grandchildren, Kyle and Jamie Willson; Brother and sister-in law, Hoyt and Bobbie Jarvis; Sister-in-law and brother-in law, Kathleen and Charles Nick and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was Granny C to her "adopted" grandchildren, Stephen and Stephanie Curtis, Jennifer and Kristen McNabb, Laura Bohley Harrington, Melissa Bohley Goosen and Amanda Bohley Day, and Hannah and Abby Birdwell.

Donna and Les moved their family of four from Henderson to Lake Jackson in 1962 and they got a surprise in 1968 when their family of four became a family of five. Donna got her hair stylist/barber license in 1957. Donna and Jaunita Neiswander opened Don Juan's Hair Designs in 1986. After Juanita retired, mom continued to run the salon until her death with the help of her "right arm" Barbara Stanley. Donna continued to "do" hair up until September when she became too weak to stand and then she continued to cut her kids hair sitting down in her kitchen. The "Juanette's" were her girls and she loved every one of them, past and present. She often said she wanted to die behind her shop chair because that is where she was happiest.

Donna was a first grade Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church for many years. She loved first grade because so many little hearts were softened and led to Christ through her class. She loved teaching them the books of The Bible with song and listened while many recited them and "earned" their very own Bible. She wanted to make the gospel of Christ understandable so that even her babies could understand the love of Jesus and his free gift of salvation. Donna loved to sing praises to her King and enjoyed many years in the choir. When her alto voice wouldn't come out anymore, she just moved over and started to sing tenor so that she could keep praising her Savior. Donna was an accomplished seamstress and sewed countless bridesmaid dresses and even a wedding dress or two. She would alter clothes and save her sewing money so she could go have fun with her girls and dear friend, Dixie Rehms. Donna will be missed by many and her legacy of faith will live on in those whose lives she touched.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, at Brazos Pointe Fellowship 679 HWY 332 West Lake Jackson, Texas. A celebration of Donna's life will be held on Friday, October 24 at 5:00 p.m. at Brazos Pointe Fellowship.
