Louis Douglas Etie

October 19, 1945 - January 26, 2015

Douglas Etie, 69 of Jones Creek, Texas went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 26, 2015. He was born in Freeport, Texas to James W. and Frances Etie. Douglas graduated from Brazosport High School Class of 1964. After graduation, Douglas attended Stephen F. Austin, and then went on to attend brickmason trade school. In 1968, he was drafted to the United States Army, served in Germany, and was honorably discharged in 1970. Upon his return from the Army, Douglas worked as a brickmason and then in 1985, he and his wife opened Bears 'N Friends at the Brazos Mall. In 1998, he went to work for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and retired from the Windham School District in 2011. After retirement, he went back to school and received his Master of Safety Training and taught safety courses for ABC Safety Council.

Douglas was a devoted volunteer fireman with the Jones Creek Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years. Douglas attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church all of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents.


Douglas is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jamie Etie , of Jones Creek, TX; d aughters, Laurie Monical and husband , John , of Angleton, TX , Julie Sides and husband , Steve , of Allen, TX ; b rother , Thomas Etie and wife , Marcia , of Arlington, TX; m other-in-law, Faye Grissett , of Jones Creek, TX; b rother-in-law, Thomas Grissett and wife , Farilou , of Jones Creek, TX; s ister-in-law, Charlotte Skinner , of Sweeny, TX; g randchildren, Katy Lowe, Haley Lowe, Luke Sides, Emma Sides and Jacob Monical ; s tep- g randchildren, Jared Monical and Kristen Monical ; s tep-great-grandchild, Lilly Monical ; n umerous nieces and nephews.


Visitation to be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 from 5:00 7:00 p. m. in the Parrish Hall of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Freeport, TX.


Services will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Freeport, TX with Reverend Robert Dohle officiating. Interment will follow at Gulf Prairie Cemetery in Jones Creek, TX. Pallbearers will be: Jody Daugherty, Gerald Eppes, Larry Grissett, Larry Mize, Ron Richards and Neil Skinner. Honorary Pallbearers, members of the Jones Creek Volunteer Fire Department.


Douglas was a very loving husband, father, grandfather who will be greatly missed and remembered as always someone who never met a stranger. He had this youthful enthusiasm and dearly loved his grand children. Douglas always had a laugh to share and was a great storyteller.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Douglas's memory to the St. Paul's Episcopal Church or Helping Hands and Hearts Hospice.
