Richard Dennis Barnes Sr.

Richard Dennis Barnes Sr. 71, of Freeport, Texas passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family.


He was born in Mobile, Alabama on August 7, 1943, to Wilton Dennis Barnes and Anita Waltman Barnes. He was an only child.


Richard moved to Texas when he was seven years old. He graduated from Brazosport High School class of 1961. Richard retired from Dow after 32 years. He was a member, deacon and junior warden at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.


He was preceded in death by his parents; and his step-daughter, Rebecca Beard.


R ichard is survived by his wife, Linda Carol; two children, Richard Dennis Barnes Jr. and wife, Kendra, of San Antonio, Tx, Shelly Rigall and husband, Chester, of Angleton, Tx; two step-daughters, Carol Mize and husband, Brandon, of Lake Jackson, Tx, Teresa Herrin and husband, Glen, of Miami, Florida; 11 grandchildren, Colton, Carson, and Kennedy Barnes, Dawn Thomas, Amy Delacruz, Brook and Gabrielle Mize, Brittany Hilton, Jake and Ryan Roghair,Collin Rigall; five great-grandchildren, Kylie and Trey Thomas, Izzabelle and Khloie Brooks, and Kiersten Hilton; mother-in-law, Shirley I. Buchanan, of Freeport, Texas; two uncles, O.O. Barnes, of Jones Creek, Tx, Hilton Barnes, of Bayou la Batre, La; sister-in-law, Vicki Green and husband, David, of West Columbia; numerous nieces, nephews and his beloved canine companion, Tinker .


The family will receive friends 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Lakewood Funeral Chapel.


Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 23, 2015, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church; 1307 West Fifth Street, Freeport, Texas 77541 with Rev. Robert Dohle officiating.


Pall bearers will be, Chester Rigall, Colton and Carson Barnes, Phillip Ellison, Brandon Mize, Bruce Whalen, Brandon Bergen, and David Green.


Honorary pall bearers will be Al Mayo, Dale Greer, M. J. Ardoin, Gerald Copus, Bill Demain, Junior Martinez, Steve Massoletti, Joe Green, Robert Moreno, Robert Caldwell, Ryan and Jake Roghair, Aaron Green, and Richard Barnhart.


Richard was an avid fisherman. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all.


Richard will be highly missed by the lives he touched through the years. God Bless you Richard, your family, friends, church family and Tinker.
