  • Guestbook
John Thomas Suggs III, of Brazoria died June 13, 2018, in an automobile accident. John was born February 22, 1958, at the Dow Hospital in Freeport, TX to Tommy Suggs Jr. and Kay Tengler Suggs. He is survived by his soulmate and wife of 37 years, Cindy Stewart Suggs; his three children and their spouses, Adrian (Toots-berrie) Copeland and husband, Tobin, Shauna (Boo-girl) Collier and husband, Mashad, and John IV (Jody/Sup) Suggs and wife, Angela; his parents, Kay Giles, Tommy and Karen Suggs; his sister, Debra Suggs; and his father-in-law, Allen Decker. Also surviving their Popeye are his precious grandchildren, Dayde, Dawlson, Hudsyn and Cooper Copeland; and Launa, John V and Kadynce Suggs. Uncle Bubba/Uncle John-NY is also survived by nieces and nephew, Ryan Oakes, Lara Oakes, Bridgette Percle, Carly New and their families. Also surviving John are his aunt, Sharon Suggs White and husband, Don; his uncle, Terry and aunt, Colleen Tengler; and several cousins and their families. John was preceded in death by his grandparents, Johnny and Loreece Suggs, Imogene Beakley, Oscar and Emma Tengler; his mother-in-law, Bettie Decker; his sister-in-law, Paula Woodruff; and brother-in-law, Philip Oakes. John was a proud member of the Brazoria County Precinct 1 Road and Bridge crew, where he was employed for the past 12-plus years - his county "brothers and sisters" held a special place in his heart. He also made many friends at the gym where somehow he kept his biceps while making sure he talked to everyone. Anyone who knew John seemed to instantly love him - just like his wife did when they met 38 years ago. He was always happy and had a smile for everyone; he loved giving funny, endearing nicknames to people and sharing whimsical sayings ad nauseum ("see how easy," "that's the ticket," "I'll be your huckleberry," "Hey bear," and more). Music moved John's soul and he was a veritable encyclopedia of classic rock, although he appreciated all genres of music. John loved football, playing guitar, camping, weightlifting so he could "look pretty for the beach," shooting water guns with his grandbabies at Jellystone and the river; singing Winnie the Poo to his children when they were babies; and most of all, he loved spending time with his B. John was a Christian who loved attending Brazos Point Fellowship church. He had faith that when he died, his spirit would return to the One who gave it and that a better world awaited him. Services to honor John's life will be according to the following: visitation will be Wednesday, June 20, 2018, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Lakewood Funeral Chapel (98 Dixie Dr., Lake Jackson, TX 77566); his funeral will be Thursday, June 21, 2:00 p.m., at Brazos Pointe Fellowship (679 Texas Hwy. 332, Lake Jackson TX 77566 en route to Brazoria). Pallbearers will be Mashad Collier, Tobin Copeland, Scott Martin, Jeromy New, Ryan Oakes and Al Percle. Honorary pallbearers will be John Suggs IV, Sam Knox, David Flowers, Gary McSweeney, Dan Henderson, Jay Welch and all his brothers in blue from Precinct 1 Road and Bridge.

Cindy, I'm going to miss my good friend. I saw him all the time at the Bucees down the street from my shop. We would visit and laugh with each other at every meeting. I knew John (Bubba) for around 48 years and considered him a life long friend. I don't remember every seeing him without a smile on his face. Such a good man and a pleasure to be around. I hope I will see him again so we can pick up where we left off.
Sincerely, Mike and Laurie Terrell
