Gwendolyn Jo Griffen, 77, of Jones Creek, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017. She was born March 26, 1940 in Bellville, Texas to Chester and Altha Bartay. She was a member of the Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Church where she served as organist for 45 years. She was a dedicated office nurse at the Lake Jackson Clinic for over thirty years. Along with her church, her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She remained steadfast in her faith unto her Lord until the end. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Steve Bartay. Gwendolyn is survived by her husband of 45 years, Stanley Griffin of Jones Creek, one son Jay King and wife Rebecca of Brazoria, and 5 grandchildren: Brittney, Stephanie, Griffin, Anthony Jayden and 2 great grandchildren: Kamauri and D'Anthoni. The family will receive friends 6pm until 8pm Tuesday at Lakewood Chapel. Funeral services will be 2pm Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Church in Jones Creek with the Rev. Tom Wessman officiating. Interment will follow at Gulf Prairie Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Church or www.samaritans purse.org.
