Evelyn A. Dornak Bowling, age 97 passed away peacefully at Schulenburg Regency Nursing Center in Schulenburg, Texas, on Tuesday, July 18, 2017. She was born on December 29, 1919 to Bertha and Robert Waligura, in Garwood, Texas. She was one of eight children, four daughters and four sons born to this family. She attended school in Garwood and worked on the family farm with her siblings through-out her young life. She worked various jobs in the El Campo area where she met and married Alfons F. Dornak in 1939. Two sons were born, Alfons (Al) Dornak and Robert L. Dornak. Evelyn and Alfons moved and worked in different cities, El Campo, Cuero and Temple before choosing to settle in Freeport. They owned and operated the Humble Service Station in Freeport until his death in 1949. Evelyn continued to work in Freeport to support her family at Anthony's Department Store and as a Dental Assistant. Evelyn met and married Winfred A. Bowling Sr. in 1952. Two sons were born, Winfred (Wink) Bowling, Jr. and Daniel (Dan) Bowling. They continued to live in their home on Fifth Street raising their four sons. Winfred Bowling Sr. died in 1977. Evelyn was a member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Freeport where she was a member of the Altar Society, the Legion of Mary and a 75 year member of KJZT. After moving to Lake Jackson she joined St. Michael's Catholic Church. Evelyn volunteered as a "Pink Lady" at Brazosport Memorial Hospital. Evelyn (Mimi) was an excellent homemaker and a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother and cared deeply for all of her family. She is survived by her four sons: Alfons R. (Al) Dornak), Lake Jackson, Texas, Robert L. Dornak and wife, LaVerne, Flatonia, Texas, Winfred (Wink) Bowling, Brazoria, Texas and Daniel (Dan) Bowling and wife, Terry, Flatonia, Texas. One sister, Aggie Getschman, Kingsland, Texas. Grandchildren: Renee O'Pry (James), Roxanne Sliter (Spencer), Robert Lee Dornak (Heather), Danny Bowling (Stacie), Valerie Targac (Matt), Vikki Bowling, Ashley Bowling, Amanda McCloud (Daniel) and Andy Bowling. Great-Grandchildren: Madeline, Trey and Kennedy Dornak, Abbie and Justin O'Pry, Spencer Sliter, Tripp and Case Bowling, Titan, Boston and Stryker Targac, Brayden Bowling and Atlas McCloud. As well as numerous nieces and nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her mother and father, Bertha and Robert Waligura. Sisters: Lorraine Reiger and Bertha Goree. Brothers: Alfred Waligura, Edmond Waligura, Henry Waligura and Herbert Waligura (who died in infancy). Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 100 Oak Drive S., Lake Jackson. Viewing will be 10:00-10:30 A.M., Rosary to follow and Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. Pall Bearers will be: Robert Lee Dornak, Danny Bowling, Andy Bowling, James O'Pry, Spencer Sliter and Matt Targac. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Daniel McCloud and Trey Vornsand. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Michael's Catholic Church.
