Ollie Lann Walker, age 88, of Pearland, TX passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017. Ollie was born March 6, 1929 to Charles and Wilma Walker of Jonesboro, Louisiana. He was one of six children with two brothers and three sisters. Ollie grew up in Jonesboro, Louisiana and graduated from Jonesboro-Hodge High School in May 1946. He was a Korean War veteran who served in the Army from January 1951 to January 1953 as part of the 773rd Heavy Tank Battalion. It was in Jonesboro that he met Martha Quarles at McDonald Memorial Baptist Church in a Training Union class. He was 19 and she was 15; she impressed him with her speaking ability. Upon Ollie's return from Korea his sister Maxine suggested he "look up" Martha. He did, and Ollie and Martha married in 1956. They made their home in Freeport, TX, where Ollie had taken a temporary job at Dow Chemical in Plant A Magnesium Operations. That temporary job became 41 years of service as an Operator in Polyethylene Operations in Plant B and at Stratton Ridge Salt Dome Operations. Ollie and Martha remained in Freeport to raise their family of four children. They formed life-long friendships at West End Baptist Church where Ollie served as a Deacon. Ollie taught Sunday School, supported Martha's passion for Home and Foreign missions work, and worked in children's and youth programs for over 20 years. He also actively supported the Seaman's Center Ministry in Freeport for many years. Ollie worked beside Martha, volunteering their shared passion for gardening to beautifying the church grounds for over 15 years. Ollie retired from Dow Chemical in 1994. He and Martha moved to Palacios in 1995 where they served as volunteers at the Texas Baptist Encampment and Ollie served as a deacon at First Baptist Church Palacios. They retired for the second time in 1999, enjoying their family and friends and shared passion for gardening, bird watching, genealogy and sunsets on the Bay. In 2012 they moved to Autumn Leaves of Pearland, TX in order to be closer to their 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Ollie and Martha celebrated their 61st anniversary in June. Ollie is survived by his loving wife Martha, of Pearland, TX. Four children: Becky Walker of Houston, TX, Chuck Walker of Freeport, TX, John Walker and wife Vicky of Baytown, TX, and James Walker and wife Connie of Houston, TX. Two sisters: Maxine Black and husband Donald, of Bossier City, LA, and Janis Foster and husband Bobby, of Benton, LA. Grandchildren: Stephen Walker and wife Bianka, Nathan Walker and wife Brandi, April Lambert and husband Zach, Josh Walker and wife Angela, Robin Walker, Aaron Walker and wife Katie, Allison Walker, and Lindsey Walker. Great-grandchildren: Ryan Walker, Rayden Walker, Charlie Walker, Evan Walker, Carson Walker, Dillon Walker, Adler Lambert, Tate Lambert, Wren Lambert, Nathan Walker, Charity Walker and Jacob Walker. Ollie was preceded in death by his mother and father, Wilma and Charles Walker. Brothers: Dean Walker and Doyle Walker and his sister Charlene Langton. Visitation will be at Lakewood Funeral Chapel on Thursday July 27, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Friday July 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society or the Texas Baptist Encampment in Palacios Texas.

So sorry to hear of Uncle Ollie's passing. Although we didn't get to see each other much, he was always so kind and loving when we did. Praying for all of you and wish we could be with you at this difficult time.
