On Saturday, July 21, 2018 Richard Corbin Aslakson passed away at his home in Lake Jackson, Texas. He was born on August 7, 1928 in Manila, Philippines, the only child of Carl Ingman Aslakson and Marian Corbin Aslakson. He was raised in Bethesda, Maryland and graduated from Landon Preparatory High School in 1946. He attended Cornell University, studied Chemical Engineering, and completed the 5 year program in 1951, His first job out of college was with Dow Chemical Company where he remained for his entire professional career, with the exception of two years service at the Army Chemical Center in Edgewood, Maryland. His early employment was in Midland, Michigan where he met and married Charlotte Loomis in 1960. In 1967, he was transferred to Dow Texas Operations and the family, now including three children, settled in Lake Jackson. Corbin retired from Dow in 1985. A lifelong Episcopalian, Corbin was a faithful member and active leader at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Lake Jackson for 51 years. At various times, he served as Sunday school teacher, choir member, vestry person, senior warden, treasurer, reader, chalice bearer, and lay Eucharistic minister. As a member of St Timothy's chapter of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew, he volunteered in Brazoria County prisons leading Bible Studies for many years. In retirement, Corbin also led Bible Studies and shared his love of trivia games with residents of several local nursing homes and retirement communities. Along with his wife Char, Corbin loved the arts, music in particular. They were supporters of Houston Grand Opera, Houston Symphony Orchestra, and Brazosport Symphony Orchestra. He served for many years on the board of BSO. Corbin loved to travel. From his birth in the Philippines, to a year in Columbia, South America as a child, to extensive US and international travel with Dow, he was able to see and experience many things. Once he retired, he and his wife visited many countries, and achieved his dream of visiting all 50 states when they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Hawaii in 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents. Corbin is survived by Charlotte Loomis Aslakson, his devoted wife of almost 58 years; his children, Elizabeth Aslakson Mathis and her husband Steve Mathis of Easton, Maryland, Dr. Kenneth Randolph Aslakson and his wife Dr. Julia Hormes of Schenectady, New York, and Carla Jean Aslakson-Yarnal and her husband Chris Yarnal of Almond, New York; and four grandchildren, William Davis Mathis of Lake Jackson, Cameron Lewis Mathis of Easton, Maryland, Grace May Yarnal and Anna Marguerite Yarnal of Almond, New York. The family extends appreciation for the faithful care provided by friend and caregiver Laura Brown, and the staff of Caring Senior Services, Texas Home Health, and Dignity Hospice.
