Tony G. James, Sr., 77, of Clute passed away Friday, September 12, 2014 in Houston. He was born March 11, 1937 to Chester and Anita James in Featherston, Oklahoma. Tony came to the area in 1955. He was a member of the Baptist Church, Lake Jackson Masonic Lodge #1317, and Velasco # 220 Order of the Eastern Star. Tony was a football official for junior high thru college level for twenty-five years. He also loved fishing and hunting. Tony also sang at many churches where he ministered throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Tonya Smith and son-in-law Greg Smith, granddaughter, Alicia Neumer, and sister Bonnie James.

Tony is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol of Clute, 3 children: Tony James, Jr. and wife Jeanette of Olathe, Kansas, Gay Weisheit and husband Mark of Brazoria,
Travis James of Angleton, 6 grandchildren;11 great grandchildren: 2 sisters: Donna Powell of Carthage, Monnie Pennington and husband Michael of Carthage, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family will receive friends 6pm-8pm Monday at Lakewood Chapel. Funeral services will be 10:30am Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenny James officiating. Interment will be at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest in West Columbia, Texas.

Tony ,Gay & Travis,
Your ole Dad was a super nice man.I always appreciated how he took his time to help all us Sweeny kids out.No matter if it was in sports or something else we had a problem with.
He was truly a fine man.I was glad to have known him.

Carol, so very sorry for your loss. I always appreciated visiting with Tony. I also know for too many years, he has been in poor health and will now be free of all pain and suffering with his spirit intact and is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
