Joe (J.R.) Wayne Risner

Joe W. Risner was born on December 13, 1955, in Freeport, TX and went to his heavenly home on October 18, 2014. Joe grew up in Lake Jackson and attended Brazosport High School. He began work at Kroger's in Freeport until February, 1977. He started his career with McCoy's, April of 1977 and worked for a total of 37 1/2 years. Joe attended First Assembly of God in Lake Jackson, Temple Baptist in Clute, and Velasco Baptist in Freeport where he and his son, Chad were baptized together by Bro. Robert Caraway.

Joe is survived by his wife, Jeanette; son, Barrett Risner and wife, Leslie; son, Chad Risner and wife, Kandace; and their two children, Jayden and Cierrah; and son, Darren Risner. He is also survived by his brother, Jimmy Risner and wife, Joan; special sister, Patsy Ruth Risner; nephew, Jimmy Risner, Jr.; niece, Tammy Doughty and husband, Sean; and their two children, Morgan and Kaylee; along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Also included are the employees of the McCoy's in Richwood who are his extended family. He loved working in the lumberyard and driving his beloved tow motor versus working inside or moving up the corporate ladder. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Wilma Risner.

In May of 2014, Joe was diagnosed with incurable Neuroendocrine cancer. He was in Hospice care after Chemo therapy failed until his Lord called him home. Joe spent his life working hard to provide for his family and enjoyed relaxing at home watching his favorite TV shows.

The Risner family would like to send a big thank you to the McCoy's work family and to everyone for all the prayers, cards, gifts and actions taken during his illness. Thanks to Dr. Feaver, Dr. Janet Tu of M.D. Anderson in Sugarland, St. Lukes of Sugarland, Mays Clinic of Houston, and to Helping Hands and Hearts Hospice care.

In lieu of flowers, please mail donations to Jeanette Risner, P.O. Box 243, Lake Jackson, Texas 77566 to help pay for medical expenses. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on November 2, 2014, at Temple Baptist Church, Clute, Texas.
