Margaret Louise Horak

of Lake Jackson, TX

October 17, 1926 - March 21, 2015

  • Guestbook
Margaret Louise Horak (lovingly remembered as Sister Margaret) left this life on March 21, 2015 to join family members and friends in her long awaited new home. Margaret was 88 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Pearl Hudson; husband, Charlie Horak, sister, Faye Durham and brothers, Paul Dean and H.C. Hudson, and her son-in-law, Norman Breshears. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Breshears of Humble, son, Paul Horak of Lake Jackson, sister, Alma Waggoner and husband, Del, grandchildren, Jeffrey Breshears, Shane Horak and Andrew Maxwell as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Margaret was born in Cushing, Oklahoma, October 17, 1926. She graduated from High School in Crosby, Texas where she was a cheer leader. With her Mother, she worked early on as a telephone operator. By far, however, the central focus of her life was sharing the gospel with others and ministering to their needs of whatever nature they might be. With her husband of more than sixty years, Margaret served throughout Brazoria county in the ministries of pastoral care and counseling, teaching, preaching and prayer. Her willingness and grace in initiating ministry expressions, sometimes in the most unexpected venues or unusual circumstances, explains why even in her advanced years many individuals and families still express their appreciation for her contributions to them.

Margaret's family will remember her readiness to laugh, her love for music and her insistence on helping whenever a need arose. She provided a home for her mother when she became ill and for her younger sister, Alma, when their Mother died and again for their Father in the later years of his life.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Woodlake Nursing Center and IPH Hospice Care. They also express heart felt thanks to lifelong friends who always remembered her, Betty Asiala, Betty and Nelson Bascom, Sharlene Royalty and Connie and Sam Shandley as well as to her church family, Family Life Church.

Friends are invited to join the family to celebrate the life of Margaret in a time of visitation and viewing at Family Life Church, 220 Lake Road, Lake Jackson at 9:30am on Tuesday, March 24, with the funeral service immediately following at 11:00am. Services will be officiated by Pastor Craig Taylor of Family Life Church. Interment will be at Brazoria Cemetery in Brazoria, Texas.

Final arrangements are being done by the Turner Family at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel, (979)297-6464. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.lakewoodfuneralchapel.com and all flowers to be sent to Family Life Church.

Dear Friends,

We are so sorry for the loss of your mom and sister. Our hearts were so sad that we didn't know about it in time to attend the service!! We would certainly have been there had we read the paper that morning instead of the afternoon. We have fond memories of "The Horak's".

May you be comforted with the peace that only Jesus can give...His peace that passes all understanding.

Dear Alma, Sharon & Paul,
So sorry for the loss of our long-time friend. I known your sister and mom since I was a young teenager. My sister (Janice) has a picture of her in the receiving line when she and David married. Worshiping and playing music together, her being in our home many times are lovely reminders of the person she was. I last visited with her at WL before Christmas. Regretfully, we were not able to attend the service and see all of you. It was a work day for me and by the time I saw the obit, it was too late to make changes for the day. Praying for comfort!

Sharon, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time, while you are grieving the loss of your precious mother. Having also lost my mother on March 13, I am sharing this loss with you. May you feel the comfort of God's loving arms around you. Love, Donna

We have so many precious memories of Margaret. She and Charlie were in Brazoria First Assembly when we were teen agers. They were great mentors. Loved to hear her sing and play the piano.
