Funeral services for Samuel Wayne Louis Wahl, 89, of Lake Jackson, Texas, will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 11th, at Resthaven Mausoleum Chapel in Lubbock, Texas, with Curt Parsons officiating.

Sam was born in Comal County, Texas on July 29, 1925, and died on April 6, 2015. He was the youngest child of Ben R. and Maude Armke Wahl. He had two sisters, Mildred Vordenbaum and Carmen Eastman. Sam attended New Braunfels High School and Trinity University, and graduated from Texas Tech in 1952 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He married Norma Gene Fisher in 1951 at Watson Baptist Church in Kalgary. They resided in Lubbock until 1995, and were members of Trinity Baptist Church.

Sam served in the US Army from 1946 to 1948 in Korea. He worked for the City of Lubbock for 37 years. During his career, he was the City Engineer, the Director of Public Works, Director of Water Utilities, and the Director of Water Development. The Sam Wahl Recreation Area at Lake Alan Henry was named for him in recognition of his leadership.

He was preceded in death by Norma, his wife of 63 years and his sisters. Survivors include his three daughters, Shara Wood (Robb) of London, Ontario; Diane Garmany (John) of Carrollton; Elaine Bradford (Ron) of Lake Jackson; and five grandchildren, Rachel Wood and Joshua Wood, and Ben, Will, and Caleb Bradford. He will also be missed by his faithful dog, Hershey.
