Joyce Daphne King, 89, of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at the Oak Haven Assisted Living facility in Industry, Texas, with her children at her side.

She was born on July 7, 1926, in Jarvis, Texas, a small community outside Palestine, Texas, to Ed and Molly Hassell. She grew up on a cotton farm along with eleven other brothers and sisters.

She married John Dale King, of Neches, Texas, in July 1950, and they settled in Lake Jackson, Texas, to raise three children.

She was preceded in death by her parents; ten of her brothers and sisters; and her husband, John Dale King, to whom she was married for 54 years.

She is survived by three children, Dale Harvey King, of Arlington, Debra King Overesch, of Austin , Texas, and John Timothy King, of Lake Jackson , Texas ; three grandchildren, William Brett Overesch, Drew Harvey Overesch, and Katherine Priest King; one sister, Patricia Starkes, of El Paso , Texas ; sister-in-law, Pearl Ruth King, of Bacliff; sister-in-law, Letha King, of Palestine , Texas ; and many nieces and nephews.

She was a long time member of the Angleton Road Church of Christ, in Lake Jackson, Texas, she was steadfast in her faith and she was always devoted to her family and her friends.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. August 14, 2015, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel at 98 N Dixie Drive, Lake Jackson, Texas.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. August 15, 2015, at the Neches City Cemetery in Neches, Texas, with Doug Raymer officiating.

I will cherish our talks about her childhood in East Texas and how she loved her husband John and her children and grandchildren. She always welcomed me into her home with a smile and a hug. God bless her family and the friends who loved her dearly. I know The Lord will take good care of this special lady.
