Funeral services for Harold A. Springer, Sr., age 95, of Jones Creek, TX, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 at Creekside Nursing Home, after suffering with Alzheimer's. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel. Bro. Brent Pittman will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm, Friday, January 5, 2018. Harold was born on August 15, 1922 in Paoli, IN to Odis & Ellen Springer. He's preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Springer, a son, James Springer, & both parents. Harold enlisted in the Army Air Corp, January 4, 1943 & received an honorable discharge on January 9, 1946. His awards he received were: American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, and Victory Medal World War II. He was very proud of his service & was one of the few remaining WWII Veterans left in Brazoria County. He was honored on his 90th birthday, August 2012, at Jones Creek Community House, by the Brazoria County Calvary for his years of service & for being a WWII Veteran. Upon leaving the Army he started sheet metal school. He then moved to Victoria, TX where he met and married his wife Gladys Eva Vest on March 18, 1950. They moved to Brazoria County, Freeport area where they were blessed with 4 children. He was a long standing member of the Sheet Metal Union. After a long & successful career he chose to retire at the age of 65 from the Nuclear Plant at Wadsworth to focus on the health of his wife Gladys. They were married for 39 years until she passed away in July 1989. During his time in Brazoria County his contributions could be seen in many areas, including the original metal work at Stephen F. Austin Elementary. He also mentored many of the area's young men through the little league baseball program. The highlight of many seasons for most was him picking the team up in his 1934 Ford. However, his favorite pastime was the amount of time he was able to spend with all his family. He is survived by a son, Harold A. Springer, Jr., "Chic", of Jones Creek, a daughter, Mildred Matusek (the late Kenneth Matusek), of Jones Creek, and a daughter Jessie Robertson (Dale Robertson) of Bartlesville, Ok. 7 grandchildren: Jessica Robles, Samuel Springer, Steven Robertson, Laura Matusek, Jennifer Hill, Kyle Springer, and Jason Robertson. 23 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. To the children of Harold Springer.
Your family lived next door to my Grandparents, the Waguespacks and the main thing I can remember about your Dad is he could whistle the most beautiful tunes.
You all were a wonderful family and I am proud to have known your Dad and Mom. Bless you all.
