James Richard (Ricky) Day, 57, of Lake Jackson was called home Wednesday, March 14, 2018. He was born October 31, 1960 in Freeport, Texas to Joseph Richard Day and Tela Harkreader Day. He graduated from Brazosport High School in 1979 and went to Southwest Texas State and finished his degree at Brazosport College. Over the years he worked as a long shore man along with his Dad at the port of Freeport, several area contractors, Civil Mechanical Inc., Kelly Services and currently employed at Dow Chemical Company for the past 15˝ years as a Maintenance Technologist Leader and Contract Operations Department. Ricky was a member of the Freeport Jaycees where he served in several offices; Sons of the Republic of Texas; descendant of the Mayflower; Citizens of the Muscogee Creek Nation; Coastal Conservation Association; the Texas Navy Association. Ricky was an avid outdoors man all of his life. He loved to fish and hunt. He was the family historian and dedicated many hours into researching family history and compiled a book detailing our lineage. Ricky loved to read and was knowledgeable on just about every subject. To the delight of his family and friends, he played the perfect Santa each Christmas. He was very generous and caring and had a marvelous wit. He greeted everyone with a smile, kind words and a bear hug. He was a man with unquestionable integrity. He garnered the respect of all who knew him. We all have a Ricky story and they start and end with a smile. He happily devoted hundreds of hours serving his community and raising money for worthy causes. He will live in our hearts forever… We are all better people for knowing and loving Ricky Day. Ricky was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, William (Billy) Edward Day. He is survived by his sister, Trisha Day Closs, husband Monroe, of Jones Creek; his devoted nephew, Austin Marshall Day Closs of Jones Creek; step nephews, Matt Closs family and Ben Closs; his Aunt Kathy Jones and husband Jim of Waxahachie, Texas; Uncle Eddie Coufal of Helotes, Texas; and Uncle O. C. Farmer of Lake Jackson, Texas; along with numerous cousins, Farmer, Coufal, Picard and Harkreader families. The family will receive friends 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2018 at Family Life Church. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Family Life Church with Pastor Craig Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Restwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Austin Closs, Monroe Closs, Chris Kincheloe, Jeff Murray, Tim Lindsey, Benny Notgrass, Jay Tracey and Wes Kinkler. Honorary pall bearers are Alan Coufal, Charles Farmer, Stuart Farmer, Paul Picard and David, Ernie and Sam Harkreader. Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your beloved brother, uncle and friend, Ricky. No words could ever convey the pain of your heart but our loving Creator and Heavenly Father does know. He has promised that very soon this enemy death and all the things that bring our hearts pain will be a distant memory-Hosea 13:14. Until then please find comfort in knowing that "He (God) is close to the broken hearted and those crushed in spirit he saves"-Psalm 34:18. It is my hope that these passages, along with your loving memories of Ricky, comfort your hearts and give you a measure of peace during this most difficult time.

I am so sorry for your loss. Ricky was such a nice guy. The last time I saw Ricky, was at a boat ramp. We only got to visit for a few minutes, and I left wishing we could've visited for hours. He was just that kind of guy. Although I couldn't be at the service today, I would like to offer my deepest sympathies and prayers for strength and peace. "God's speed, Ricky! I'm a better person for knowing you!"

Ricky has been a wonderful neighbor; we would talk 'over the fence' about yard work and other topics and always wave to each other when we would see each other outdoors. I would tease him about setting the high standard of keeping yards cleaned up which would prompt me to do the same. Recently Ricky noticed my son and I trying to position my car to give it a jump and he came right on over to help and then jumped my battery. That is Ricky - pleasant, ready smile, reliable, and helpful. I will miss him very much. Regretfully I will be gone when the service is held so I'm appreciative to have this forum to share my condolences with Ricky's family.

Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State) is well known as a "party" place.

Don't know how true that is, but Ricky once told me that's where he spent the best 7 years of his life.

Adios to a good man and friend!

Ricky day and I have been friends for several years we even work together the last two. He was a great Christian man always fair and always was a peace maker. He will be greatly missed but I know that he is with our Lord right now enjoying his retirement. Praying for the family I know they will miss him but he's in a better place.

To the Day family:
There are no words that could possibly comfort you right now except that Ricky was loved. I grew up with Ricky and stayed in touch through the internet with his life. My heart is broken for you all. I am truly saddened by your loss, but I do believe that he is now with our creator. God bless. I wish with all of my heart that I could be there for you.
