George was born in Atlanta, Texas to Wesley & Emma (Stanton) Tidwell on March 30, 1944. He spent his adolescent years in Hooks, Texas. At the age of 18, George enlisted into the United States Air Force where he completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He then went on to Amarillo, Texas for Air Tech School. George was then stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base in California and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
George moved to Freeport in 1967 and went on to work for The Dow Chemical Company as a Chemical Operator for the Versene Block. It is there that he made so many wonderful friends and memories throughout the years. One friend said that the George spent so much time at Versene that the whole block should shut down for 24 hours in memory of him. One of his greatest accomplishments was achieving his 38 year anniversary with Dow. He retired from Dow in December of 2004.
George met and married Margaret Mendoza in 1972. The two shared three children; Omar, George "Wesley", and Luciana "Shana" Tidwell; later they were blessed to have Eddie Norris added to their family before Margaret's death.
Years later, George was one of the few "lucky ones" to find love for a second time. On February 14, 2004, George married Eufrocina Gabriel. At that time he also gained two more daughters, Ellaine Movilla and Georgin Sinson. The two shared a great love and she stayed by his side caring for him until his last breath.
George enjoyed all sports and any sports team as long as they were from Texas. He was even one of the few that truly believed an all Texas Super Bowl would be the greatest thing ever. He was especially proud of all of the local area High School Teams and especially local youth organizations. Through the years, George has had an impact on many lives from the Freeport Area. George was one of the founders of the Freeport Hurricane Youth Football Association. He was also a past coach, umpire, and board member for both the Freeport Little League and also the Freeport Girls Softball Association. He was known to many as Coach, Papa, GW, Uncle George, Lolo, Pops, Kuy, Dad and even Uncle Barney George.
George led by example off and on the field. If he was not at work or at the ball field you could be pretty sure he was fishing with his cousin W.C. Stanton or his close friend Mike Penney. He also enjoyed old cars and playing dominos with his family and friends. George loved his day trips to Louisiana with his wife Rosie and family friends in search of becoming the next Million Dollar Slot Machine Winner.
George is survived by his wife: Eufrocina "Rosie" (Frpt). Sons Omar and wife Larisa Tidwell (Houston), Wesley Tidwell (Frpt), and Eddie Norris (Freeport) Daughters Luciana "Shana" Tidwell-Garza and husband Jose (Frpt) and Ellaine Movilla (Frpt) and Georgin and husband Jerrick Sinson (Frpt), his sister and brother in law; Rosita "Baby" and Gary Jones (Frpt). His Grandchildren: Jessica and Joshua Savoy, Alex and Nate Tidwell, Trisha, Leeann, and Joseph Cisneros, Faith Cordoba, Donte Garza, Joe, Julian, and Jace Sinson, and numerous cousins and many "Favorite" nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents George and Emma Tidwell, his previous wife, Margaret, his brothers Luther and Walter Tidwell, and his sisters Blanche Kelsey and Jean Huey
Pallbearers will be: Donte Garza, David Gibson, Gary Jones, Joshua Savoy, Jerrick Sinson, Louie Sinson, Michael Stokes, and Fred Tamez.

George Tidwell was a fine man. He was a loving and devoted father to not only his children but to others than needed him to be a father figure in their life.He was a wonderful devoted husband to his loving wife Rosie Tidwell and her loving children. George was always considered a kind and loving person to every one. Rather it was family, friends , or strangers. George will be missed dearly. He continues to leave a great legacy behind in his family that are still here.
