Gerry Allen Bollom, age 66, of Lake Jackson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 29, 2016, at home surrounded by those who loved him. Gerry was a beloved husband, big brother, caring uncle, a good and loyal friend to many and Papa G to "the girls." He was born in Houston, Texas, on September 8, 1949, the firstborn of Alfred and Martha Bollom. He attended Spring Branch High School and then the University of Houston where he earned his mechanical engineering degree in 1972. Shortly after college, he began a career with Dow Chemical that lasted 35 years. After retiring in 2008, he took a few days off and went back to work for Kelly Services where he spent seven more years contracting for Dow. Gerry loved the outdoors. Snow skiing in New Mexico, hiking in Yosemite, or white water rafting in Wyoming were only a few of his adventures. He played for the Pirates when Dow had a softball league. He was an avid golfer and if he could talk his golfing buddies into it, he would play 36 or 54 holes in a day. Gerry enjoyed fishing in the surf or taking his boat into the bays around Surfside. When the "grand girls" where younger… you could find him in the driveway playing basketball or wiffle baseball with them. Gerry had a vegetable garden in the spring and fall. He planted blueberry bushes, fruit trees, and pecan trees at his home. But, his special gift was tending and caring for his roses. They were his pride and joy and he loved sharing them with Kathy and others. His parents, Alfred E. and Martha L. Bollom preceded him in death. He leaves behind his loving wife, Kathy; his brother, David A. Bollom his wife, Blanca, and their sons, Michael Bollom and James Bollom; one sister, Gaynell Wayne and her daughter, Keisha Wayne; his stepson, Jerred E. Swinburn and his wife, Mallorie, along with the grand girls, Jaycee, Jenna, and Jolee Swinburn. Gerry is also survived by his mother-in-law, Betty Neely Hagan; brother-in-law, Jim Neely his wife, Rhonda and their daughters, Morgan Neely and Taylor Neely; sister-in-law, Kelly Neely Cooper and husband Rick Cooper and their children, Tyler Cooper, Casey Cooper, Brittany Myers, Christina Cooper, Priscilla Cooper, and Amanda Cooper; sister-in-law, Kassy Neely Acree and her daughter Neely Acree; and special relative, Rhonda's mother, Gladys Hanselman, who loves gardening as much as he did and always baked the best German chocolate cake for him. Vistation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Brazos Pointe Fellowship, 679 Hwy 332 West, Lake Jackson, Texas. A Celebration of Life service will be held immediately following the visitation. The family would like to express special thanks to Brazosport Regional Home Health. Also, caregiver, Vicky Guel of Help, Inc. for her help this past year and to AMED Hospice with special recognition to Ann Nesbitt and Niecy Peterson. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gerry may be made to the ALS Association of Texas, MDA, or a charity of your choice.

My sincere condolences to all of Gerry's family. Gerry was the first engineer with which I worked when I joined Dow in 1976 at Cell Feed A and shared an office for awhile. He was a good mentor and always seemed positive and happy. We had lost touch over the years, but would occasionally see each other around town. It was only by accident that I found out about Gerry's passing. I will always be grateful to Gerry and have positive memories of our work together.

I meet Gerry in late 2008 when he became a client and very quickly a favorite acquaintance. I could clear my entire day to listen to him tell fishing stories, talk about our gardens and share stories about the young people in our families; He loved his Grand-Girls.
There was always a twinkle in his eyes and a grin on his face that made it so obvious to others that he was a truly happy man.
He will be greatly missed.

Gerry - it was such a pleasure to get to know you and see what a genuine Blessing you were in Kathy's life. I know you both searched long and hard for each other - and then the miracle of Marriage Blessed your lives. I'm so happy you got to enjoy each other and the many adventures you shared.
We are all heartbroken that you had to endure so much, but at the same time amazed at the positive attitude you showed the whole time. Your courage and gratitude were amazing.
You will always be dearly Loved and Severely Missed by your sweet wife, your family and dear friends.
Rest in Christ now, with Peace.
