Robert was born to Jose and Josefa Saenz on June 6, 1929, in La Mesa, New Mexico and passed away on December 13, 2016, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Sugar Land, Texas, at the age of 87. He is survived by one sister, Eliza Silva; Olivia Norman, mother of their sons and daughter; Robert Saenz and wife, Cathy, Clemente Saenz and wife, Mechelle, Mark Saenz and wife, Tina, Elizabeth "Lisa" Jordan and husband Charles; and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his wife of 31 years, Rosa Lee Harvey Saenz; sister, Herlinda Saenz; brothers, Joe Saenz, Clemente Saenz and Sammy Saenz; and one grandson, Miguel Seviano Saenz. Robert enlisted in the Air Force in 1948, where he served his country for 26 years. He fought in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and throughout his career he was also stationed in Tokyo, Panama, Spain, and Portugal. His bravery during Vietnam earned him the Bronze Star. He then retired with honors in 1974. After retirement, he moved to Freeport, Texas, in 1978, where, upon arrival, he became a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW 4341 and he was the Post Commander for the DAV, Angleton Chapter 39. He fully embraced his retirement by gardening and volunteering throughout the community. On any given Friday, he could be found doing what he loved best, dancing at the Eagles Club or the American Legion Hall where he won several awards for Polka, Jitterbug, and Waltz. Pallbearers will be Christopher Campbell, Jose Salazar, Joshua Rosas, Kennedy McConnell, Krystian Saenz, Matthew Saenz, Ricardo Salazar, and Ryan Saenz. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Freeport at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. at the Houston National Cemetery.
