Dorothy Julie Gilliam Moradi was born on September 29, 1956 to Robert (Bob) Franklin Gilliam and Dorothy Elizabeth Hall Gilliam. She died on December 24, at the age of 60, following a brain aneurysm. While growing up in Lake Jackson, Julie enjoyed singing with the youth choir of First Baptist Church, Lake Jackson. She also relished the company of family, including her brother, Robert, and various cousins, including Tanya Vance and the DiGuardi girls. Music continued to be apart of her life as a teenager when she played the flute in the Swingin' Buccaneer Band. After graduating from Brazoswood High School in 1975 she earned an Associate's Degree from Brazosport College in 1977, a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy from Texas A & M University in 1983 and a Master of Education degree from Prairie View A & M University in 1989. In her adult years Julie was privileged to have traveled to various locations, including Canada and Mexico, as well as across the United States. One pivotal trip she took while still a teenager was to visit relatives in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This event made an impression on her and she loved Virginia, especially Colonial Williamsburg, for the rest of her life. Julie also enjoyed being around family, solving any kind of puzzles, gardening, and improving and repairing anyone's house. It was our privilege to have her with us, as she constantly exemplified the ideal of unconditional love. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her father, Robert (Bob) Franklin Gilliam. She is survived by her mother, Dorothy (Corky) Elizabeth Gilliam; son, Allen Moradi; brother, Robert Gilliam, Jr.; niece, Shelley Gilliam; nephews, Robbie Gilliam and Matthew Gilliam; aunts, Louise Vance and Christa Lee Diguardi; cousins, Norman Vance, Tanya Sharp, Paul Gilliam, Elizabeth Rogers, Phillip "Bo" DiGuardi, Joan Hyden, Gwen Parker-Nelson, Edward DiGuardi, April Benamati, Debra Ryden, Kenneth Hall, Brian Hall and Denise Butler. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home, 98 Dixie Dr., Lake Jackson. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson, 401 Yaupon. Graveside services will follow at Restwood Cemetary. Family and friends are then invited to gather at the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church for a meal and fellowship. Active pallbearers will be Phillip "Bo" BiGuardi, Edward DiGuardi, Norman Vance, Paul Gilliam, Robbie Gilliam and Matthew Gilliam. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Moradi and Robert Gilliam. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at both CHI St. Luke's Health Brazosport in Lake Jackson, and Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston for their efforts. Julie's final act of generosity was to have her organs and tissue donated to various recipients so that they may continue their lives. The family would like to encourage others to do the same if possible in order to help others. Helping people was what Julie was known for doing, and we will do the same during our lives as well.

I was so sorry to learn of Julie's death. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. I worked with her for several years at Blue Ridge Elementary and we spent many hours after school talking about many subjects, including traveling, in "her" library. She was so very dedicated and I felt very close to her. We have all lost a wonderful friend and/or family member. God Bless.

I was just thinking about Ms. Moradi the other day. One of the nicest persons I've ever met. I really enjoyed working with her. We use to laugh at all of the coin change we had to count together during the library book fair. I still remember how she laughed. She will truly be missed. My condolences to the family.

Julie was my friend at Lanier Middle School and on many occasion helped me with my counseling guidance lessons with students in the library. She was sweet, helpful and funny. Our students loved her. I have a funny memory of her "swinging her hips and arms" to one of the songs on a video she was showing students one afternoon. Of course we all had a good chuckle. Until we meet again Julie. We will all miss you.

Dorothy, as I knew her in school, was one of the kindest and sweetest people I had the pleasure to know. She also had a really great sense of humor! She and I spent two evenings together at the last Brazoswood H'S class reunion and she was the same genuine and friendly person I remember her always being. She will be missed.

We are so heartbroken to hear about Julie. There are so many things that I will miss about my first cousin. She was one of the kindest and most thoughtful persons that I have ever known. She set a profound example for the rest of us. We will miss her deeply and look forward to seeing her again one day in heaven.
We love all of you.
