Clara Lee (Wilson) Newton, 84, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, 15th of July, 2017 in her home in Angleton, TX. Visitation will be held Friday, July 21 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at Lakewood Chapel in Clute, TX. Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 22, at 10:00 AM, at Lakewood Chapel in Clute, TX. Clara Lee was born in Galveston, TX, to Ira Vernon Armstrong and Hattie Armstrong on 8th of August 1932. She attended high school at La Marque, TX, where she graduated in 1949. She worked at the Brazoria County Appraisal District for 10 years, until her retirement in 2006. She was a Noble Grand of the La Marque Rebekah Lodge and supporting member of United Way. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, country music, crocheting and most importantly being with family. Clara is preceded in death by her parents, Hank and Hattie Armstrong, granddaughter, Jeanette Lewis, sister, Jeanette DeVasier, and nephew, Mark Bradburn. Clara is survived by her husband Jessie Ray Newton, daughters Linda Wilson Buck and Janice Wilson Griggers, son Johnnie Wilson, and two step-daughters, Kim Rogers and Rhonda Newton, brothers Orville Armstrong, Bobby Armstrong, sisters Joyce Wilkinson, Barbara Feiner, and Cindy Grant, 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren who know her as "Grandma Clara". Clara will be remembered as a warm, loving, compassionate person who was a dear friend to all. Her optimistic and cheerful attitude was reflected in her colorful outfits, complete with matching scarf, accessories, and tennis shoes. As Jessie would say "she was a classy lady". The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Lori Delgado and the Hospice Care of Angleton, TX.

Clara was a charming, full of life person. She had many stories to tell and I loved hering all of them.
