Mary Lynn Cooper's Life at a Glance:
Mary Lynn (Ivy) Cooper joined the angels on Monday, October 15th, 2018 at 9:30 p.m. Mary, or Bem as she was affectionately known by many, was 80 years young. Mary was born on June 14th, 1938 in Huntington, TX to Lauren and Carrie "Lucille" Ivy. Her step-father, Ray Warren (PaPa), also played a very special role in her life. She grew up in Freeport where, she met the love of her life, Earl Leo (E.L.) Cooper. They were married on August 20, 1956 and began their life together eventually settling in Clute, TX and had three children, Gloria Cooper, Charles Cooper, and Mona Cooper, all of Pearland, TX. Mary retired from Kroger in 1996 after 15 years of service. She then worked in Alvin ISD in the athletic department as secretary before going to Galveston ISD and serving as the secretary to the athletic director for 10 years. Mary made countless friends during her time in Galveston and she loved the kids and coaches very much. Mary took on her final job role becoming Bem to her grandson, Jake, who was born on July 26, 2005. Being a grandma was her favorite job ever and she was wonderful at it. Bem never missed a baseball, soccer, or basketball game and it was through these events that she became Bem to all the boys and their families, too. She is loved by all and is already greatly missed. We can be comforted in the fact that Bem will never miss another one of Jake's games, as she now has the best seat in the house. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her children, Gloria, Charles, and Mona Cooper; and her heart, her grandson Jake, all of Pearland, TX; her sister, Mona (Jim) Johnson, of Houston; brother, Bill Warren of Angleton; nephews and nieces, Gary (Laura) Johnson, Becky (Scott) Fredrickson, and Jim Johnson all of Houston, Bobby (Jennifer) Ivy of Angleton, James (Patricia) Warren of Freeport, Teresa (Lyle) Smith of Lake Jackson, Tracy (Mario) Bulnes of Clute, James Duncan, of La Marque whom Mary loved as a grandson; and Sue Meirkhan, a dear friend whom Mary loved very much, also from La Marque. Mary will also be forever remembered by countless former co-workers, friends and baseball boys and their families. In her giving spirit and love of baseball, Bem would want all kids to have access to anything baseball, so in her spirit we request in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the Pearland Little League, 5522 Fite Rd., Pearland, TX, 77584 in the name of "Bem's Heart" A celebration of Mary's life will be held beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 21st at Donna's Legacy Event Center at 785 County RD 539, Alvin, 77511. If you are planning to come help us celebrate our mom's beautiful life please wear Houston Astros attire, she will love that.
