Melba Juanita Bruce Cason, age 86, passed away December 5, 2020 surrounded by her children. She was born September 4, 1934 in Groveton, Texas to John and Ella Mae Bruce. Melba met her future husband, Spurgeon Cason, while at Brazosport High School where she graduated from in 1953. They began courting each other in 1952 when Spurgeon would come see Melba at Lake Drug where she worked after he played in a bluegrass band. After each performance she would make him a malt with an extra scoop of ice cream until she was found out. They were married November 10, 1953 in her parent's home upon Spurgeon's return after Naval boot camp.

Melba was a proud military wife who traveled all over the United States and Cuba with her family in support of her husband. She loved her country and could be sighted driving around town in her white Toyota Camry with U.S. flags waving from her windows.

Her life was a living example of a Proverbs 31 woman in her love for God, her family and friends. She attended and was a member Shady Oaks Assembly of God where her family were founding members of the church. Melba loved to love on people whether it be monetary, a smile or a loving hug. She had a bubbly personality and always made people around her laugh. She never had a problem making friends here or in Oklahoma where she visited often.

Melba was a dedicated mother to her children and a MawMaw, Grandma and MeMe to her grandchildren. She treasured every moment with her family, saying many a prayer over each one of them.

Melba was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Spurgeon Ray Cason, parents John and Ella Mae Bruce, son Douglas Cason, grandson Jason Mendez, great-grandson Latham McGinnis and sister Barbara Mariam.

She will be sorely missed and survived by her children: Rev. Don Cason (Carol) of Owasso, OK, Teresa Tipp (Buddy) of Angleton, Elizabeth Cooper of Lake Jackson, grandchildren: Laura Hargrave (Nathan), Ryan Cason, Stephanie McGinnis (Shalako), Seth Cason (Amanda), Nicolas Tipp (Maegan), Kylie Cooper, Ethan Cooper, great-grandchildren: Noah, Preston, Landon, Imogen, Kinley, Kaysen, Liam, Kortlyn, Drake, Blake and adopted family Dimetrius, Dani, Aidan and Isabel Carter. Melba will also be missed by numerous other family and close friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 14, 2020 at Brazos Pointe Fellowship Church in Lake Jackson from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 with services following. Pastor Rick Helquero will be officiating. The last Melba on the move siting will be down Oyster Creek Drive where she usually frequented her favorite eating places, Wendy's for a frosty and Jack in the Box for tacos. Graveside services will be at Restwood Memorial Park with her son, Don Cason, officiating. Pallbearers are grandsons and great-grandsons.

I will sorely miss my dear friend. She kept me laughing. She was always so upbeat, positive & happy. Her smile was so contagious & her gift for gab was a precious gift as she was so accepting of total strangers who did not remain strangers once she had a conversation with them. I know she is in a better place but it's my selfishness that would rather keep her here. Rest peacefully in the arms of our Lord & the company of your loved ones who went before you!
