Milam Roy Leist of Angleton, Texas passed away peacefully on March 24, 2021. Roy was born on December 27, 1930 on a farm near Yoakum in Dewitt County, Texas. His parents were Fritz Leist and Vallie Turner Leist. Roy was married to Jenny Beth Strong Leist for 63 years until her passing in July 2020. Together, Roy and Jenny raised two children, Valerie and Danny Leist.
Roy graduated from Yoakum High School in 1948 and Baldwin Business College and later, he attended Alvin Junior College night school. Roy served his country by joining the United States Air Force in 1950. He spent a year of his service going to technical schools studying advanced electronics, aircraft instrumentation, radio, radar and auto pilot. He was stationed in Texas, Illinois, Mississippi, New Mexico, and the Alaska Territory. While in Alaska, he volunteered to serve at a remote outpost near the Arctic Ocean.

He was an avid deer hunter and loved spending time outdoors. He hunted for 75 years, finally deciding to not go to his deer stand in 2020. Roy bought a small farm in Palestine, Texas in the 1960's. He loved planning, gathering building supplies and constructing a small home in Palestine, Texas. He enjoyed hosting and inviting friends and family to hunt with him in Palestine. Mr Roy and his wife Jenny lived right down the road from us in the 605/605A neighborhood. My siblings and I used to to go down there to visit and they would always give us a soda or candy and give us years for making the honor roll. When she passed away my heart was shattered and now hearing that Mr Roy passed away has my heart even more broken. My Dad and Mr Roy talked all the time when he patroled the neighborhood in his golf cart. We nicknamed him our neighborhood "security Guard!" I'm sure gonna miss seeing him riding around the neighborhood. My heart, thought and prayers go out to Danny, Valerie and the rest of the family. RiP Mr Roy. Until we meet again!
