On Sunday, May 9, 2021, the Lord called our mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt, Karen "KK" Lynn Murphy home to her eternal family. She was 71 years old. Our beautiful Karen was born on October 29, 1949, in Freeport, Texas to Francis Melvin "FM" Murphy and Dorothy Ann Murphy. She attended Southwest Texas University. In 1972 God gave her the most amazing gift of becoming a mother- something she cherished her entire life. Her son, Chad Barkley Brandt, was her world. She was more proud of him than anything. She also adored her only granddaughter, Haley Gray Brandt. Karen worked in the insurance industry most of her life. She gave everything she had to her family and it showed. She loved her mother, sisters and their children with a passion. She was known as "Aunt KK" the "fun aunt". She was always quick with hugs and a few scratch-off lotto tickets for the kids. She even let them keep the money when they won. Karen had a strong faith in God and loved going to her church, First Baptist Church of Freeport. She also loved the outdoors, especially the beach but her love for animals was paramount. She loved her dogs Tucker and Lilly. She served on the Livestock Committee for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for many years.

She was preceded in death by her father, Francis M. Murphy, and sister, Rhonda Poje.

She is survived by her mother, Dorothy A. Murphy - her son, Chad Barkley Brandt - her granddaughter, Haley Gray Brandt - sisters, Darla Phillips (Jackie), Dawn Yntema and Scarlet Hoogakker (Doug) - her many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Pall Bearers will be Chad Brandt, Eric Poje, Cameron Phillips, Gerrit Yntema, Kenneth Murphy, and Jeremy Dunn.

The family will receive friends at 9am until service time at 10am Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jeffery A. McDonald officiating. Interment will follow at Restwood Cemetery.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Freeport, TX, 501 S Brazosport Blvd, Freeport, TX 77541 or to Alzheimer's Association in memory of Karen Lynn Murphy.

Sending much love and many prayers to the Murphy family. Karen was a light in life. I fully understand the feeling of loss with ahlzimers. We deal with it on the daily but we will remember that outgoing Karen of before. I love you all.

I would like to say to Dorothy and to Karen's family how sorry I am that you have lost her. I remember so well working with Karen and Dorothy preparing for FBC's family night dinner on Wednesday nights before church. I especially remember Karen's helping me when my little white dog Johnny was lost. She got in my car with me and helped me look for him.....and when I found him, it was because Karen was sharp-eyed. She saw him down between the rows of cars at the car dealership on 288 and said, "Look, Brenda!" And I got my little dog back. I'll miss you, Karen, but see you in heaven, sweetie!

Aunt KK, I miss you terribly!!! I wish I could turn back the hands of time and relive every memory I have with you - from our slumber parties when I was young, our trips to the beach house, my birthday parties, the Rodeo cook-offs and the birth of Easton. You meant the world to me and I will never let go of those memories. Until we meet again, I love you to the moon and back!!!
