Dale was born Nov. 20, 1927 in East Texas, where he grew up and attended high school. Like many in his generation (often called the Greatest Generation) he enlisted in the Marines to serve his country in World War II.
After the war, Dale eventually landed in Freeport, where he found work in various places but found his long-term career in sales and management at Briggs Weaver and Gulf Supply. It was in Freeport that Dale and Helen settled, where she taught school and together they raised their only child, David. It was also in Freeport that Dale and Helen joined the St. Paul's Episcopal church, where they were lifelong members.
While Dale didn't talk much about his time in the war, its mark on him was obvious in the best way. He was the epitome of honor, of doing what's right even when it's hard, and of putting God and family first. And friends (when Dale was your friend, he was all in) devoted, supportive and loyal.
Preceding Dale in death are his parents; his wife, Helen; his best friends, JL and Margaret Massoletti, and at age 94, sadly many other family members and friends left us before Dale reached his heavenly home.
He is survived by his son, David and his daughter-in-law, Angela; and his grandchildren, John (Desiree), Amanda, Angelina and Allie, along with his precious golden retriever Molly his best buddy in the years since he lost Helen. Dale is also survived by his church family at St. Paul's and his "angels in Earth's clothing," his next-door neighbors, Gwen and Larry, who were such amazing friends and took such good care of him over the years,.
A funeral service to honor Dale's life will be held Saturday, Sept. 4, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on 5th Street in Freeport. With the recent surge in COVID-19, guests will need to wear masks (and some will be provided). A burial service will follow immediately after at Restwood Memorial Cemetery.
Pall bearers are Larry Williams, Lee Massoletti, Leslie Massoletti, Stephen Massoletti, John Isaacs and Bill Kidd.

We're late to this guestbook, sorry. We are so saddened to hear of Dale's passing. He was like a second father to William. He was such a loving, warm, welcoming man, and we will miss him dearly.
