Rudy Lara Sr age 82 went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday February 5, 2022, surrounded by wife and family at his home in Sweeny Texas.

Rudy was born in Freeport Texas February 21, 1939 to Sistos and Modesta Lara.He grew up in Freeport Texas, married his childhood sweetheart, and raised his 9 children in Clute Texas. He has resided in Sweeny Texas for the past 40 years.

Survived by his wife of 65 years Lena Lara and nine children: daughter Nina and husband Roy Mata, daughter Nora McKee, daughter Neva and husband Ricky Perkins, son Rudy Jr. and wife Bea Lara, son Chebo Lara, son Zeno and wife Debbie Lara, son Steven Lara, son Rene and wife Christine Lara & son Mitchell Lara. 32 grandkids, 52 great grandkids & 9 great great grandkids. Also Survived by his siblings: Sister Lupe Lara, Sister Julia & husband Chava Pena, Brother Robert & wife Severa Lara.

Preceded in death by his Parents: Sistos & Modesta Lara & siblings Rosie Kouches, Richard Lara, Benjamin Lara, Alice Hernandez, and Sarah Damian.

He was very athletic and enjoyed playing sports making history after being the first Hispanic to play little league baseball with Monsignor Father Leo of Lake Jackson and local childhood friends. He played on a Hispanic baseball team and in honor of him, his name is engraved on a monument in Freeport, Texas. He was a feather weight division boxer in the Golden Glove League in Houston Texas. He enjoyed coaching men's softball teams (Warriors and Brohans), soccer teams, Pony league baseball and was the manager of Clute little league Yankees baseball team. He was a member of Lulac Organization, a boy scout leader, umpired girls', and men's softball, he refereed baseball, football, softball, basketball & soccer. He was a bus driver for St. Mary's Catholic church. He enjoyed following the grandkids in town and out of town, watching them play many sports in all kinds of weather.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 11, 2022 at Lakewood Funeral Home Chapel, from 11:00am-2:00pm, Rosary will begin at 11:30am-12:30pm, Eulogy 12:30pm-1:30pm, Funeral service at 2:00pm with Father Jim from St. Jerome's Catholic Church.
