After Hurricane Carla, the family moved to Clute, where they began attending Temple Baptist Church. Both William and Margaret and all of the children accepted Christ at various times and became members of the church. Margaret's greatest love was focused on her growing family.
Margaret enjoyed reading The Facts newspaper, and taking Saturday afternoon drives to visit latest improvements in Brazoria County. She also enjoyed writing letters and talking on the phone to friends and family, especially Corky Gilliam and her numerous pen pals. After most of the children were married, she returned to her love of making quilts. She took pride in making quilts for each new grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. She was still sewing up until she succumbed to pneumonia as a result of Type A Flu. She will also be remembered for oatmeal candy.
Survivors include her ten children, Judy Dierks, Beaverton, OR; Gerald (Pam) Koenning, Clute, TX; Jane Kepple, St. Mary's, GA; Joy (Lonnie) Benge Sargent, TX; Jeannette Risner, Lake Jackson, TX; Bobby Koenning, Lake Jackson, TX; Billy Koenning, Clute, TX; Steven (Kim) Koenning, Marble Falls, TX; Janean (Kevin) Luckianow, Lake Jackson, TX; and Mark (Heather) Koenning, Leander TX. In addition Margaret is survived by 24 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceeded in death by her parents, her husband William, one sister, one brother, two half-brothers, three son-in-laws, one grandson, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services for Margaret Jane Koenning, age 94, of Clute, TX will be held at 10:30am, Tuesday, March 15 at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel. Brother David Caraway will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30am prior to the service. Pall bearers will be Margaret's ten children.
The family wants to convey their deepest appreciation to Angel Home Health Care and A*Med Hospice.
