She grew up in Freeport, and Lake Jackson, and graduated valedictorian from Brazosport High School in 1957. She attended Rice University in Houston and graduated Magna Cum Lauded and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa in 1963. In June of that year, she married and continued her education, receiving a Masters in English literature from the University of Texas in 1969. She taught English literature at Brazoswood High school for 33 years, a brilliant and beloved teacher. She adored her students, with whom she remained friends for many years.
Carolyn had a great sense of humor, was a delightful wit, a loyal friend, a fine neighbor who went out of her way to help others in the community. She loved gardening on their beautiful plot at the Lake Jackson Farms, and she was a lover of literature and music, especially opera. She and her husband later became patrons of Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen(OEDK) at Rice.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harrell Huff.
There will be no services. Carolyn ashes will be spread around the 19 Bayou Rd home place. In place of flowers you can go to http://oedk.rice.edu/gift/ to make a gift in honor Carolyn.

I learned so much from Mrs. Huff. She told the funniest stories about her own life. I graduated in '76, a million years ago, and still think about her anytime eating alone or wearing the same outfit as another woman or accidentally falling down comes up. I knew she treasured us and for so many of us, she was our favorite teacher.

Mrs. Huff was one of the most brilliant and inspiring teachers I ever had. She was funny; she was witty; and she was incredibly gifted. Her love of teaching and her care for, and commitment to, her students was never in doubt. She challenged us to think critically and analytically; to be discerning; to explore ideas; to be our best. I absolutely loved being in her class, and, except for the exams, always looked forward to English period. I know I am among many former students who now mourn her passing, but will always remember not only what she taught us, but how she touched us. The rapport she had with her students was collaborative, but also personal, and I will always treasure it. I am thankful, and very privileged, to have known Mrs. Huff--both inside and outside of the classroom. She was a special beacon to those who knew her. May the peace, hope, and comfort of God encompass her family, and all of us who were blessed to know her.

Mrs Huff is a beloved senior English teacher for the Brazosport High graduating class of 1968. We still rave about her humor, and how much she cared about us. I am so blessed to have known her.

I was so grateful to Carolyn for guiding me in my new position as a teacher of upper level English classes at Brazoswood High School. I learned so much from her when she let me sit in on her classes during her quality instruction and personal interaction with the students. Rest In Peace, Carolyn Elizabeth Huff.

This is a truly sad time for any former student of Mrs. Huff....I absolutely loved having her as a teacher. Her wit and love for teaching her students came across every day...I looked forward to every class I had with her. I am so thankful I was able to get to know her a bit. May God wrap His arms around her family and those of us who were privileged to have had her as a teacher.

Many condolences to the Huff family. Mrs. Huff was one of my favorite teachers. She is the reason why I love scientific writing and teaching. Her lessons to me were passed along to my sons and students for the past 20 years.

When I saw Carolyn's obituary today, sadness just came over me and I could not stop tears from swelling my eyes. Carolyn is one of the nicest person I have ever met, I got to know her through my wife Molly. When Molly first was assigned to Dow Chemical's Freeport, she got to meet Harrell and Carolyn. Our two families became close friends ever since. We kept in touch somehow even though we went on International assignments for over a decade. It was a real pity that the last few years we did not meet up in person due to Covid. Carolyn's mere presence always lighten up the lives of others. She will be forever remembered. Richard

Mrs. Huff will be missed. She cared for her students. She cared for her community. In today's world of increasing divisions, she was a refreshing soul who set an example from which we should all strive to follow. Godspeed, Carolyn.
