Kevin Wayne Garner passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, April 24.

Kevin was born on October 21, 1965 in Freeport, Texas to Wayne and Linda Garner. He grew up in Lake Jackson, Texas graduating from Brazoswood High School in 1984.

Kevin was a multi sport athlete at Brazoswood before ultimately focusing on baseball at the University of Texas from 1985-1987. He was an accomplished baseball player, earning All American status at the high school and collegiate levels.

He was drafted in the first round of the 1987 Major League Baseball draft and enjoyed a 11 year professional career in Australia, Mexico, Canada, and the United States. After baseball he completed his degree from the University of Texas and pursued careers in real estate and coaching.

He was married to the love of his life, Elizabeth Morgan Garner on June 29, 2013 in First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson, Texas. They resided in Naples, Florida with their four children. Though they would later relocate to Austin, Texas, Kevin's heart was never far from the coast. Wherever he was, he found every opportunity to fish in the bays of the Gulf of Mexico.

He will be forever remembered for his bigger than life personality, sense of humor, fierce love for his family, and commitment to his Christian Faith.

Kevin is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth, their daughter Austen Copland and her husband Stuart and granddaughter Adelheide, and sons Quinn, Rainer, and Ronan Schurig, mother Linda Garner of Lake Jackson, brother Coby Garner and his wife Michelle, daughter Sydney, and sons Carson and Caleb, and brother Cory Garner and his wife Stephanie, son Luke, and daughters Hannah and Gianna.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Garner, maternal grandparents Perry and Alice Spillers and paternal grandparents Roland Garner and Bill and Billie Griffin.

Kevin was my teammate for one year at the University of Texas, I was a junior his freshmen year. Although we were not close friends due to just the one year playing together and age difference, I can only recall fond memories of the time we shared. A fine young man and I was very saddened to hear of his passing. Condolences to his loved ones.

Garner Family - My name will not be familiar to any of you, but I was a huge Padre fan when I was growing up and paid very close attention to up and coming players in their minor league system. Kevin was a player that I was very excited about and was extremely disappointed when he was traded - especially since I lived in Albuquerque and thought that I would be able to see him play during the 1991 season when the Las Vegas Stars came through town.
My reason for posting here is that I have a photo of Kevin from the archives of the Topps company that I feel should be with your family and am hoping that someone will see this message and reach out to me. My email address is loveforthe93@yahoo.com.

Kevin was more than a friend, he was a brother. He will truly be missed.

I'm devastated. I haven't seen Kevin for a couple of years now but met him in Naples in the Collier County Senior Softball where we were team mates for two out of the three years we played together. He was always such a good sport and a very talented one at that. What struck me was his sense of humility despite his great talent. We had a lot of laughs and he shared some stories of the Ottawa Lynx and those that became Expo's like the Jays manager Charlie Montoya and their catcher Joe Siddal the Blue Jay's studio analyst. I know he liked his fishing and he was just so laid back. He would be an honorary Canadian for sure. My condolences to the family. We've lost a good man.
