Charles Edward Robinson, 70, of Sweeny, TX, peacefully passed away on July 07, 2022 surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous 2 year fight with Stage 4 metastasized prostate and bone cancer, during the COVID pandemic. We admire his relentless attempts to stay strong and keep a positive outlook while he endured overwhelming odds taking chemo, radiation, and hormone therapies and waiting for trials suited for his aggressive strain.
Charlie was born on June 19, 1952 to Charles Russell Robinson and Jewel (Chris) Christine Glass in Meridian, Mississippi. Charlie was the man of the house for a long time, he helped take care of his 3 younger brothers until his mother married John Yarbrough, who was a loving father to her 4 boys. His mother often would joke that Charlie was 12 going on 40.
Coming from an Air Force family, meant multiple schools from frequent moving so he graduated from two High Schools. He graduated in 1970 first from Jacksonville High School in Arkansas and then Vanden High School in California. After graduation he started college in California where he met the love of his life, Marie Campbell. His family was stationed to Texas and hers to South Carolina. In the summer of 1972 they were married at the courthouse in Sumter, South Carolina. He held many professions all across the states to support his young family. He worked offshore oil rigs in the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and cut and hauled Pulpwood with his brother in Mississippi. He returned to Amarillo, Texas and worked oil rigs in the panhandle of Texas and Oklahoma. He owned 2 gas stations and an auto body shop in Amarillo, Texas
He decided to change his career and went back to school for Electronics Systems Technology at Texas State Technical Institute. After graduating first in his class in 1982, he was offered several different positions at Phillips 66. He proceeded to work 28 years as an Analytical Instrument Specialist at the Sweeny Refinery in Texas. He retired from Chevron Phillips February 28, 2011 on the same day Marie retired to start new adventures together and have more time to spend with family fishing, camping, traveling, and cruising with friends. Charlie pursued his love of working on projects and creating fun artwork with Marie.
Remembering the time line of a person is not who he was. It's how he made everyone feel when they were with him. Charlie's main passion in life was taking care of family and loved ones, he was always willing to sacrifice to make others better. Most will remember him for his quick witted sense of humor and joyful laugh, loving nature, and pure honesty. He took pride in learning new subjects and always expanding his knowledge. Charlie always made time for friends and family alike.
Charles was Proceeded in death by brothers, Mike and Ronnie Robinson, a baby sister, his parents, Chris and John Yarbrough, and beloved daughter, Christy Payakwichien and nephew Jeremy Robinson.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marie Robinson of Sweeny, Texas; and son Charles "CJ" Robinson and Samantha Fleming of Austin, Texas. His granddaughter Jessica Doan and Cody Alejo and great grandson Aiden Atlas Albarran of LaPorte, Texas. His brother Jerry and wife Carla Robinson and his son-in-law Timmy Payakwichien of Amarillo, Texas. He is survived by a very large family of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, Great Nephews and Nieces, and many friends.
Due to increasing COVID cases in our area. Charles will have a celebration of life gathering at a later date
The condolences and love our family has received from family and friends is very comforting. Our family wants to thank everyone for their kindness and well wishes during this difficult time.
