Edward Rupert Rivier, 69, of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on August 25, 2022.

Eddie was born September 28, 1952, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to his father Maximiliano and mother Marcelina. He was an only child, but had many cherished cousins who shared his childhood. Eddie began working at Union Carbide in 1974 and retired after 45 years of service at UCC/Dow Chemical.

Eddie had many passions racing motorcycles, playing pool, and spending time with his large extended family. Beyond working at UCC/Dow Chemical, Eddie enjoyed helping others and being a part of many organizations and fraternities. Eddie was a 32nd Degree Mason as well as a member of the Scottish Rite and the Shriners. In addition, for forty-three consecutive years, he was a guest instructor at Texas A&M Fire Training School.

Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Anna, and daughters Kerynn Lathrop, Janice Masters and Jennifer Shannon, and sons-in-law Travis Lathrop, Jim Masters and John Shannon. He is also survived by his grandchildren who he would brag about with no hesitation. His grandchildren are Parker Johnston, Abigail Shannon, Charlotte Shannon, Baby John Shannon, Maxwell Lathrop, Khaya Lathrop, Keaton Lathrop and Edward Masters.

Eddie is preceded in death by both his mother and father and several beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Celebration of Eddie's Life will be held on September 3, 2022 at the Courtyard Marriott Conference Center in Lake Jackson at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers: Eddie was passionate about helping others, and to honor his life please donate to the Shiners Hospital as this was one of his favorite organizations.

Eddie was certainly committed to helping others since he was very young. He had the courage to deviate from his family legacy and had the courage to follow the path to self-improvement. Joining the Masons was the biggest break-thru for him, in it, he learned new skills that applied to improving his life. I admired this progress and achievements but most of all, I appreciated what he did for others.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Eddie for many years-both at Seadrift and Freeport. He was always passionate about his work and contributed a great deal to Carbide and Dow.

Eddie was a great friend and mentor. He always saw more in me than I saw in myself. Every time I saw him he would build me up and tell me how I was going to do great things in the future and he helped me be a better person. He was also a great friend and every time we got together, there seemed like no time had passed since the last time we saw one another. He will be greatly missed. I would like to send my deepest condolences and prayers to his family.
