Paula Roper was a sweet friend, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She went home to meet the Lord on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 88 years old.

Paula was born August 22, 1934 at her childhood home in Memphis, Texas right when the noon train rolled by blowing its whistle. She was born to William Paul Turner and Rosalie Elliot Turner.
Her family moved to Clarendon, Tx then onto Littlefield Tx. At the age of 9 the family decided to move to California for her father's health however they only made it as far as Arizona where her father passed from pneumonia. The family then turned around and moved back to Lubbock Texas.

Paula attended Lubbock high school and in her senior year she met Travis,. He had just finished his time with the Army / Air Corp and was home visiting his parents. They were set up on a blind date and 4 months later married on December 25, 1952. My mom said, "she fell in love with daddy on the first date". Through their 63 years they raised four daughters. We jokingly called ourselves the "original six" but the family grew through the years to 50 plus. They were soulmates from the beginning and their love for each other and the lord grew stronger.

They moved to Florida in 1954. They were members of Andrews Ave Church of Christ for 43 years. Paula was very active with the church and their singing ministry. paula worked for Broward County Water Department and as the church secretary for a few years then spent the remainder of her career working for the Broward county school district as a registrar. After 25 years she retired from the school system in 1995. She and Travis moved to Lake Jackson in 1997 to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. Her and Travis were members of the Lake Jackson Church of Christ for 25 years. She was involved in the benevolence ministry children's Bible classes and ladies retreats. She was also an active member of the Plantation Quilting Guild.

Mom loved sewing and quilt making was her specialty. She has made every member in the family a quilt. They are all displayed on the back pews as you entered. She loved painting, watercolor was her favorite. She also enjoyed photography and took a lot of pictures. She was a wonderful cook making the best fried chicken and homemade cinnamon rolls. Paula had the most beautiful alto voice and sang at many events . She loved collecting things like bells, porcelain dolls and anything Norman Rockwell. Paula loved her 4 little girls so much. She was always going to school events, shopping, playing games and chaperoning the youth group. We could always get her to laugh but we drove her crazy too! Paula worked hard with dad to give their 4 daughters great birthdays, Christmas and vacations. Her example as a Christian was seen every day weather she was at work, home or church.

She is survived by her children, Vicki Wunderlich and husband Mike of Lake Jackson, Michele Wilson and husband David of El Campo. Sandy Moore and husband Randy of Lake Jackson and Mary Cronk and husband Dale of Buffalo gap. 10 grandchildren Mindy, Brian, Kelly, Misty, Danny, Brock, Royce, Tiffany, Shelby and Travis. As well as 19 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Travis L. Roper, her parents, William Paul Turner and Rosalie Elliott Turner, her brothers Willard, Doug and Ralph Turner and her sister Anita Wickham, Grandson Noah Casey and grandson in law Michael Casey.

Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brian Moore, Royce Moore, Brock Farias, Travis Wunderlich, Daniel Wilson, Shaun Baker and Johnny Skelton.

The family would like to thank CareBuilders at Home and IPH Hospice of Lake Jackson for their wonderful care of their mother.

We knew Paula and Travis at Andrews Ave. and West Broward churches of Christ, where Travis was an elder until their move to Texas. We feel blessed to have personally known and laughed with such good Christian servants and examples. May their family find peace and comfort through Him.

I loved you aunt Paula. The stories you told were inspiring for me. A strong Christian woman never wavering from your faith. My father loved his little sister which helped to witness love in my life. God bless your journey home. Give my dad a kiss from me.
