His kind hearted and loving wife of 30 years Marion Charles, preceded him in death. Thereby guaranteeing for the first time that she would have the last word.
Richard leaves behind 4 brothers whom he was raised with and another dozen or so brothers he adopted and loved, along the way. If you put all of Richard's brothers real or adopted, and his sons in a line up, no one would have any trouble believing that they are all guilty of something.
Richard was the second of the famed or infamous, depending on who you ask, Charles boys. There are 5 of us yes, we know enough to make our own basketball team. But Richard was our family's glue, he always kept us together, even when we didn't want to be together. He was the one that always made the phone call to check on you, it might be at 2 in the morning but he would check on you.
In addition, he leaves behind his two sons, whom he took great pride in, Justyn and Ryan. Additionally, he is survived by multiple nieces and nephews, too many to count or name here. But he loved all of them and for them he will forever be "Uncle Richard".
Richard's gift in life was that if he loved you, he loved you felonies and all, if he disliked you, which was most people, well you are probably out of luck. You never had to wonder where you stood with him, because he would tell you several times, and then call you one more time to make sure you knew exactly what he thought of you.
His love, his opinions, and his love of the Astros will all be missed by his family and friends.
