On Monday, June 19, 2023, our Husband, Daddy, Brother, Uncle and PaPaw, Larry Allen Mize, passed away unexpectedly surrounded by those he loved. Our hearts are hurting but we know that he is now flying high with the angels.
Larry was born August 24, 1944, in Overton, Texas along with his twin, Garry. He moved to Brazoria County in 1956 and married his sweetheart, Deedrea Lewellen on June 19, 1965, and celebrated 58 years of marriage the same day he gained his angel wings.
He proudly served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War where he served from 1966-1968 and ultimately held the rank of Sergeant.
Throughout his life, Larry loved everyone he met and spent his life serving his community and others. He worked for many years at Williams Motor Parts, M & G Trailer Ranch, Briggs & Weaver and had the honor of becoming a part time Bailiff for Brazoria County Courthouse. Larry was a volunteer with the Jones Creek Volunteer Fire Department for 48 years. He was an active member of the Gulf Coast Rescue Squad and enjoyed going out on patrol. One of his favorite volunteer jobs was ringing the bell for the Salvation Army where he was dressed as Santa Claus.
Larry's heart was bigger than Texas. He was known as the ''Pancake Man'' at the nursing homes and the ''Brownie Guy'' at the Brazoria County Courthouse. During the holiday season, Larry delivered poinsettias to his nursing home and courthouse ''ladies''. Another way Larry brought joy and comfort to others was bringing his beloved dog, Goldie, to the courthouse to help soothe nerves or simply to make others smile.
Larry loved fishing…second only to the love he had for his family. He didn't just like to catch them, but he liked to cook for family and friends and then sit back and take in everyone enjoying it. He was the life of the party but always looked for ways to give to others and everyone believed that Larry loved them ''the most.''
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, DeeDee, his two girls, Kimberly Mize Schaub (Jason) of Tomball and Brandye Mize of San Antonio, his twin brother Garry Mize (Linda) of Jones Creek and sister Nancy Mize Armstrong (Howard) of Lake Jackson. He is also survived by his two grandsons - Dyllan Schaub (fiancée McKenzie) of Kyle, Texas and Dusty Schaub of Tomball.
He is survived by brothers-in-law David Lewellen (Bobbie Jo) of Jones Creek, Tommy Lewellen (Ronda) of Houston and Chuck Lewellen (Bridget) of Lake Jackson along with sister-in-law Cheryl Lewellen Price (Mike) of Galveston. He is survived also by numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry was proceeded in death by his parents, Raymond and Doris Mize, stepfather Lloyd Morgan, brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Liz Lewellen, brother-in-law Pat Lewellen, sister-in-law Gail Mize and in-laws James and Jean Lewellen.
The visitation for Larry will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at New Beginnings Church, 400 Dixie Drive in Lake Jackson, Texas at 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. with the service immediately following the visitation. Burial will commence at Restwood Memorial Park at 1:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, Brandon Mize, Teague Mize, Colby Self, Gage Self, Jerrad Johnston and Nolan Mize. Honorary pallbearers will be Skipper Murray, David Lewellen, Tommy Lewellen, Chuck Lewellen, Mike Price and Chad Lewellen.
We are grateful to the Doctors and Nurses at the Methodist Hospital Houston for their compassion, care and professionalism. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jones Creek Volunteer Fire Department, 220 Peach Point Road, Jones Creek, TX 77541 in Larry's name.

I met Larry in Judge Holder's Court and cannot tell you how wonderful and welcoming he was to me when I was a new attorney. He will be missed. It was always such a pleasure to chat with him while I was waiting on my hearings. He made us all laugh and he was always willing to help out in any way he could. My deepest condolences and prayers for all of his family.
