March 1, 1938 - December 31, 2023
It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and devout Catholic, Patty Matus. She peacefully departed from this world on December 31, 2023, surrounded by family and leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
Born on March 1, 1938, in Houston, Patty was a woman of strength, grace, and unwavering faith. Her journey was marked by a deep devotion to her faith, a commitment to family, and a resilience that inspired all who knew her. As a devout Catholic, Patty found solace and strength in her faith. A 56-year long member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, she served in many roles including Sunday School teacher, Extraordinary Minister, Adoration Chapel Coordinator, Spiritual Enhancement Chair, and a charter member of Catholic Daughters since 1991. Her unwavering faith provided comfort, guidance, and a profound sense of purpose throughout the challenges and joys of life.
Patty was not only a woman of faith but also a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She shared a lifetime of love and partnership with her late husband of 58 years, Eugene Matus. The memories of their enduring love continue to shine brightly in the hearts of their three daughters, nine grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren. Her grandchildren fondly remember her as: ''faith-filled, warm-hearted, full of joy, optimistic, kind, loving, funny, and a really great storyteller.''
Professionally, Patty was a committed and passionate Teacher/Director at Mrs. Boggs Pre-School for 33 years. She touched the lives of countless children who were fortunate enough to pass through her classroom.
Patty loved playing dominoes, bridge, and bunco with friends and grandchildren. She followed in her mother's footsteps as one of the Astros' most enthusiastic fans. She had a serious love for sweets, so much that she could be seen searching magazines for new recipes she could get her children or grandchildren to make for her.
Patty Matus is survived by her daughters, Mary Matus (Carole), Shelly Key (Bobby), Laura Ander (Ernie) as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of extended family who were touched by her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love.
A Mass in memory of Patty Matus's life will be held on January 5, 2024, visitation 9:30 am; Rosary 10:30 am; Funeral service 11:00 am, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, where family and friends are invited to join in prayer and remembrance.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to: Catholic Daughters of the America's, Court #2364, St. Michael's Catholic Church, 100 S. Oak Drive, Lake Jackson, TX 77566

I just now found out about your mother's passing. I'm so sorry to hear this. I a great many fond memories of her. Road trips when traveling to softball tournaments, always making sure we were taken care of in the dugouts, her administrative and teaching at Mrs. Boggs where all 3 of our kids began their education. But most of all her dear smile. She truly loved. Kent and I offer our deepest condolences. Love, Anna
