Funeral services for Edwin ''Ed'' Marshall Whitehead, age 83, of Clute, Texas will be held at 9:30am on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Clute, with Pastor Josh McGee officiating. Interment will be held at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Trinity, Texas at 3:30pm. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Clute on Monday, February 12, 2024, from 6pm to 8pm.
Ed was born on October 11, 1940, in Sandia, Texas to Joseph and Ruth Whitehead. He attended and graduated from Jeff Davis High School in Houston, Texas. On September 4, 1962, he joined the Houston Police Department and is a member of Academy Class #26. During his tenure with the department, Ed was assigned to the Central Command Station, Training, Burglary and Theft, Internal Affairs, Major Offenders Division and upon his retirement in 1992, he held the rank of Detective Sergeant in the Forgery Division. Ed then accepted a position with TDCJ in the Internal Affairs Division, which later became known as the Office of Inspector General. In 2004, he again retired and began a leisurely life with Patsy.
Ed was a member of the Masons, a deacon of several churches and attended First Baptist Church of Clute. His hobbies included playing cards and spending time with his family. He was passionate about the Astros, Texans and somehow even the Cowboys. He spent many hours yelling instructions at the athletes as we know they could hear him through the TV.
Ed is survived by his wife Patsy, daughters: Jill Hanks (Doug Hamel), Jodie Pentak (Bill) and Vanessa Whitehead, sons: James Fitch (Regina) and Timothy Fitch (Linda Biehunko), grandchildren: Ashley Selman, Lauren Hanks, Landon Fitch, Marshall Pentak, Madison Fitch, Anna Pentak Haab (Jacob), Ariana Barnes, Araya Barnes, and Opal-Ann Backus and 7 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charles Whitehead and great granddaughter, Keegan.

Ed was proud of all of his accomplishments during his 42 year Law Enforcement Career, but even more than that he cherished being a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Houston Police Retired Officers Association and the Law Enforcement Memorial Fund.

I had the honor of supervising Ed when I was his Lieutenant in the Forgery Division . Ed ran the Forgery office while I set back and took it easy. On a serious note, he was the BEST OF THE BEST. Even after my retirement he and I stayed in contact. My only regret is that I never got by to visit with him in recent years. Ed Whitehead exemplified what every officer that carries a badge should strive to be. I love Ed as a true friend an GREAT MAN...

Ed was a great family man and loved being with his family. He always included me when I could be there and was a very special person. Very intelligent and engaging in conversation and a huge hug when saying goodbye. He was full of love and shared his love with his entire family. He was loved and will be missed by all 🙏❤️
