Stephan Ray Helmig, 66, of Stafford, Texas, was born on February 24, 1958, in Independence, Missouri, to Russell and Loeda (Marriott) Helmig. He passed away at 2:22 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

Steve graduated from Lone Jack High School in 1976, where he excelled in football, basketball, track, and band. Following high school, he proudly served in the Navy from 1976 to 1980. His civilian career began in 1980 as a mainframe operator at Panhandle Eastern, where he remained until his passing, with a transfer to Houston, Texas, in 1987.

Steve and his former spouse, Michelle (Jeffries) Sharp, were married in 1981 and welcomed two children together. After their divorce, Steve developed a close friendship with Peggy Adams. They eventually moved into a home together in Stafford, TX. They shared a deep passion for bowling, often traveling for tournaments. They also enjoyed exploring new places and dining out together. Family was central to their lives, and they cherished spending time with loved ones.

Outside of work, Steve was an avid bowler for decades, enjoying a weekly league with friends. In recent years, he devoted much of his free time to renovating his retirement home in Jones Creek, Texas, where he found joy in riding four-wheelers on his property. He was also passionate about reading and following sports.

Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Loeda Helmig, and his partner, Peggy Adams. He is survived by his father, Russell Helmig; his children: Jeff (and Lacey) Helmig of Lee's Summit, Trista Rizk of Austin, Texas, and Jenni Wailes of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren: Sammi Helmig, Sage Rizk, Kaden and Jacob Wailes, and Clara and Calvin Helmig; two brothers: Jim (and Terri) Helmig of Warrensburg and John Helmig of St. Louis; as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will honor Steve in both places he cherished, with a small service in Jones Creek, Texas, on Saturday, July 6th, at 1 p.m. at Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Church (231 Gulf Prairie Rd, Jones, TX 77541). Additionally, a service will be held at Lone Jack Christian Church 200 W. Lone Jack/Lee's Summit Rd., Lone Jack, MO 64070) on Saturday, July 27th. Visitation will be at 1:00 with the service beginning at 2:00.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Church or The Jones Creek Farmers Market c/o Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Church.

My Condolences and Deepest Sympathy to the Helmig family. I also worked with Steve at Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co in Kansas City, Mo in 1981 and relocated to Houston Texas with them in 1988 until 1991. Steve was a good bowler and love competing on all sports. Rest in peace my friend and you'll be missed

I worked with Steve for a number of years. He always enjoyed a good laugh (if it was only a smirk out of him). I got to know him better towards my final years with the company, and glad to say I considered him a friend.

My deepest condolences to Steve's family. I worked with Steve at Panhandle Eastern Pipeline from 1984 until 1999 - when our parent company sold off the Panhandle Eastern companies to another corporation. I remember Steven being a kind and helpful coworker. Always welcomed a good laugh, and enjoyed the company's department picnics and annual softball tournaments. May he rest in peace.
