Ruth Johnston Wilkes was called home to be with the Lord surrounded by family on January 26, 2025, at the age of 90.

Ruth was born July 12, 1934 in Diboll, Texas to Ella Crawford and Thomas Johnston. She was the youngest of five children, she attended Cleveland High School and studied nursing at Brazosport College.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Travis Wilkes; her parents, Ella Crawford and Thomas Johnston; her son, Eric Wayne Shaw; her son-in-love, Russell Coleman, and son-in-love, Charles Hahn.

Ruth leaves behind her daughters, Kathy Curlee of Lake Jackson, and Cecilia Coleman of Clute, her grandchildren: Erica McCune (Ken) of Lake Jackson, Tobie Schmittinger (Chris) of Rockwall, Allan Shaw of Angleton, Russell Coleman of Clute, Karen Pointer (Stephen) of Richwood, Kathleen Neighbours (Stephen) of Lake Jackson, Krista Renteria of Angleton, Julie Renteria of Lake Jackson, and numerous great grandchildren that will miss her greatly.

Ruth was a woman of unwavering faith, whose life was a testament to her deep love for God and her commitment to living his teachings. She was a loving and devoted wife, Mother, Grannie, and friend. Ruth's strength was rooted in her Christian beliefs. She touched the lives of all who knew her with kindness and compassion. She spent her life caring for others as a dedicated nurse. Ruth also had a love for the outdoors. She enjoyed spending time hunting, deep-sea fishing, and playing card games with friends and family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson. A funeral service to honor Ruth's life will be held at 1:00 pm. on Friday, January 31, 2025 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Pastor Danny Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Restwood Memorial Park in Lake Jackson. Pallbearers will be Russell Coleman, Ken McCune, Stephen Neighbours, Bart Squires, Robert Jones, and Chris Silguero. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

I remember Aunt Ruth as a very kind and gentle soul.
I always enjoyed her visits at Grandma Curlee's house.

She was a very dear friend of mine and my parents. When Zi Zkived in Vlute we went to the same church and visited. I love her dearly and she will be greatly missed. I am praying for the family. Sending hugs and much love.
