Edward Will Ahlrich, a pioneer of Lake Jackson, TX, passed away quietly at the home of his daughter on August 13, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. Ed was born on July 23, 1917 in Burton, Texas to Edward and Louise Ahlrich. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Edith Ahlrich, and daughter, Virginia Ann Ahlrich. Ed is survived by his son, Ed "Bubba" Ahlrich and wife Bitsy of Lake Jackson; Carolyn Woodiel of Lake Jackson; Jean Ahlrich of Houston; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Ed graduated from Rice University in 1942 and immediately went to work for Dow Chemical as a mechanical engineer working in the Magnesium Project, which began a 40-year career. He retired in May, 1982. He was involved in Jaycees, Little League, Girl Scouts, the Lake Jackson Historical Association, the Round Top Historical Society, and volunteered at the Sea Center. He was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and a founding member of Riverside Country Club. He and Edith enjoyed their life in Lake Jackson with many friends and activities.

Ed was an avid hunter who enjoyed many days outdoors with his friends, pursuing doves, waterfowl and deer. When he wasn't with Edith, he wanted to be in Llano.

A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, August 15, at Lakewood Chapel. The funeral service will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 100 Oak Drive, at 10 a.m. August 16 with Monsignor Leo Wieczyk officiating. Interment will follow at Restwood Cemetery.

Special gratitude to Rachel Prescott for her friendship and loving tenderness to Ed. Thank you to Robert Caraway of Help, Inc. in providing such warm care for our Dad. Much appreciation to IPH Hospice for their 24-hour support and care for Ed and his family.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Alzheimer's Association, 322 8th Ave. 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001 and the Lake Jackson Historical Association, P.O. Box 242, Lake Jackson, TX 77566.

We enjoyed and loved Edith and Ed at Riverside CC, in our Good Sam Trailer Club, at the card table and in our many travels together. They were wonderful people and their children have much to be proud of. May God Bless you all. Gladys & Gordon Miller
