Edith Mildred Macek, age 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 24, 2011. For the past nine years, she has been in the care of her daughter and son-in-law in Irving, Texas.

Edith was born January 28, 1916 in Rosenberg, Texas to Beecher and Emma Cochran.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Wesley Macek; three sisters, Josephine Matthews, Gladys Rude and Margaret Lea Cokendolpher and one brother, Louis Beecher Cochran.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Joseph Wesley Macek, II of Freeport, Texas; daughter JoAnn Shelton and son-in-law, Joseph Shelton of Irving, Texas; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was a faithful member of the First Christian Church, a homemaker, enjoyed gardening, quilting, feeding the birds and her church life.

Visitation will be held Sunday night, August 28, 2011 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel, 98 N. Dixie Drive, Lake Jackson, Texas.

Funeral service is scheduled for Monday, August 29, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Lakewood Funeral Chapel, followed by graveside services at Rosenberg Cemetery (formerly W.O.W.) located at 1401 Avenue D, Rosenberg, Texas, 77471.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to First Christian Church, 226 West 4th Street Freeport, Texas, 77541 or the Alzheimer's Association.

Thank You Edith for you Loving Spirit to your Church and Friends. You always had a Smile for Everyone and we will Miss You. Your Loving Daughter took wonderful care of you and now we must let you go from our Sight but not our Heart.

My heart goes out to the family of Ediths. She was a bright spot in our church for many years. I shall miss her great smile and friendly hugs. Our church has lost another wonderful member.
