Edith Marie Hudgins Payne, 83, of Lake Jackson, passed away Friday, September 2, 2011 in Sugar Land. She was born September 11, 1927 in Velasco, Texas to Samuel Wesley Hudgins and Oza Day Hudgins. Edith was a lifetime area resident.

Edith also was a member of Chapelwood Methodist Church. Edith was an avid family historian who was a fourth generation native of Brazoria County. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters and 1 brother.

Edith is survived by her husband of 65 years, George D. Payne of Lake Jackson, 3 children: Barry D. Payne and wife Lorri of Sugar Land, David L. Payne and wife Marilyn of Sugar Land, Georgiann Mitchell and husband Dennis of Rowlett, Texas, 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren, 1 brother: Reagin O. Hudgins of Pasadena, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Lakewood Chapel. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Dr. Wesley Welborn officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are: Derrick Payne, Jonathan Payne, Joshua Kirk, Phillip Mitchell, Catherine Mitchell and Emma Payne.
