On September 13, 2011, at the age of 72, surrounded at home by the family she so treasured, Rose lost her battle with cancer, took her last sweet breath, and left us, to join those she loved who were waiting in heaven.
Rose's early years were spent on a West Texas farm before moving to Clute at the age of 12. It was at the ice cream shop in Clute that Rose first met the man she would fall in love with, Orval Eugene Culberson. Rose and Orval eloped and were married May 9, 1955, in Corsicanna, Texas. Married for over 56 years, Rose and Orval began each morning dancing in the kitchen together before the hustle and bustle of the day began. Together they raised their three children, Shanna, Koye, and Jay Acker.
After her three children were grown, Rose attended Brazosport College and became a Registered Massage Therapist. Rose shared her gift of healing and touch while working at her business in Clute, the "Touch Clinic," and in Lake Jackson at "The Healing Center." She also returned to Brazosport College as the instructor for the massage therapy program. Rose was a Reiki Master Teacher. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Clute/Velasco Chapter 220, and Daughters of the American Revolution. Rose was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Clute and Unity Church of Christianity in Brazoria.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Alton Odom Acker and Gladys Lorraine Warren Acker; brother, Alton Foy Acker; sisters, Gay Nell Acker Creech, Sara Ellen Acker Gray and Lou Jane Acker Ripple; and her nephew, Larry Joe Dyer.
Left to treasure her memory, her smile, her touch ... are her husband, Orval Eugene Culberson; daughters, Shanna Culberson Binnion and husband, Michael and Koye Ann Culberson Henderson and husband, Paul; and son, Jay Acker Culberson. Loved by their granny like no one else in this world were her grandchildren, Erin Rose Binnion, Hunter Anderson Culberson Binnion, Zackary Taylor Henderson, John Odom Henderson, and Tucker Henry Henderson; and her three great grandchildren, Foye Rose, Lily Lou and Gaige Lee. Her gift of "family" will also live on in her many nieces and nephews, as well as in the hearts of her friends that she held so dear.
Rose was a gift to us. She was the heart of our beautiful flower garden. In her presence there was love and grace. In her absence, beautiful memories. As her family and friends, we are better because she was and will continue to be a part of us.
God gave us memories that we might have roses in December ~ James Barrie
To celebrate the life of Rose Ann Acker Culberson, visitation will be held Friday, September 16, 2011, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 2 p.m., with Pastor Rodney Coates officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jay Acker Culberson, Hunter Binnion, Zackary Henderson, John Henderson, Tucker Henderson, and Jim Bob Ripple.

Rose was a beautiful lady who could light a room with her smile. My life was blessed by just knowing her. She and her sisters were all beautiful ladies and we can take comfort in the fact they are all peacefully reunited, just waiting for us. The petals may have fallen, but the Rose is still alive.

Rose's influence was felt most in the way she raised her children. Shanna and Koye were great singers and full of life and enthusiasm for the smallest things. I will never forget her and her sister sitting at Temple Baptist on Sunday morning or the fact that she was at every concert I remember when Koye and I shared Mr. Magee's choir class. She especially blessed me when after so many years we met again at Unity and she spoke to me as if I saw her just yesterday. Her calm spirit and love of life will be sorely missed--God Bless the family

A rose is not just a rose. Rose Culberson, was such a dedicated healer to her family and community. Her healing touch soothed many a care worn soul. She will be missed yet her delicate fragrance will remain. Deb

Although I knew Rose only a short time, I am certain she has many loving friends and family: she has always had a wonderful flair for sharing herself with others with genuine sincerity. Her loss will certainly be felt by the complete Unity membership of Brazoria and by each of us there. I personally have always been impressed with her ease of delivery when speaking to us at Unity services, particularly through her stories: she had the most entertaining way of presenting her lessons (she was always able to make the "plainest" subjects and situations seem humorous and easy to remember.) I really liked that. Sometimes, she appeared to even "tell on herself" (in giving an example) then struggle to conceal her embarrassment: this would just add to her story. We'll truly miss her. God Bless her and all her family. John Harper

I have been holding the family in prayer & uplift you in the future as you grieve the physical absence of your wonderful Rose. I admired her attributes in classes that I attended with her and our attendance at the Unity Church. She was my massage therapist in Clute and Lake Jackson. Rose was gifted with many talents; one of them being a public speaker. She was immensely proud of her family. Blessings to you all, Charlotte Clayton

Heavy hearts and thoughts are with you all in your great loss. Saw Hunter just few weeks ago, he told me things did not look good. As we are told so often, they are in a better place, when they can't get better, but even that thought does not make it easier to bare. Love to you all, Sue & Ron
