Shortly thereafter she met the love of her life and future husband, Russell Brandon. Ellan and Russell married in 1943, a marriage that ultimately led to the other love of Ellan's life, the birth of her daughter, Ann.
Ellan worked at the Dow Chemical Company for many years, but her true work-related passion was her unparalleled skill as a seamstress. Everyone that knew her knew of her ability to not only mend clothes, but to make them from "scratch". The other item she was famous for making from "scratch" was her delicious peanut brittle. The phrase "often imitated, never duplicated" has never been used in a more appropriate context.
Ellan was also a longtime member and part-time secretary at the First Baptist Church in Freeport.
Ellan was pre-deceased by her husband, Russell; and two brothers, Ben "Jiggs" Lanford, and John "Switzer" Lanford.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Martin; grandsons, Ben and Matt; and three sisters, Betty Sue Walker, Sammye "Totsy" Dingle and Kittie Mae (Dan) Parnell.
Funeral services will be officiated by the Rev. Tom Wessman on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 2:00 at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel with visitation from 12:00 p.m. until service time. Interment will follow at the Gulf Prairie Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the SPCA of Brazoria County at 141 Canna Lane, Lake Jackson, TX 77566.

Ann, your mother was a beautiful lady and she raised a daughter whom I loved. May you find peace knowing that on this Thanksgiving Day she has recieved the greatest blessing, that of meeting her saviour face to face. I'm so glad that you were with her, I know that was a gift to both of you. You are loved and prayed over today! Love, Janet

Ann, so sorry to hear about your Mother. Wish I had known about her funeral earlier and I would heve been there. I hope all is well with you, and would love to see you. Take care.

Ann, We were out of town and could not attend your mother's funeral. Your parents were both very special to us when we moved to Freeport. We have fond memories of both of them (and you, too) Harold & Rosemary Wood

Ann, I never had the pleasure of knowing your mother but my mother thought highly of her. Please know you have been in our thoughts and prayers since we have learned of your mother's passing. Perhaps you and I will meet one day, since I do not believe we ever have. Not knowing all of my cousins is sad to me and I wish we all had more opportunities to get together. Wishing you the best, Karen M. McGee
