Glenn Wade Heath died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Freeport in the early morning of Good Friday, April 6, 2012.
Heath was executive editor and managing editor of The Brazosport Facts for thirty years. In addition to his work as editor, service to the community was of paramount importance to him; his accomplishments are far too numerous to exhaust in this notice. He was immensely proud of his military service in the South Pacific during World War II. Sailing was his greatest personal joy.
One of his proudest achievements as editor was a series of articles he wrote in the late 1950s and early 1960s that made possible the commutation of the sentence of a young black man unjustly condemned to death. The "Others" Award, the highest international recognition by the Salvation Army, was awarded to him for his service of almost fifty years as a senior member of the Advisory Board. He was an elder and former board chairman at the First Christian Church of Freeport, where he was a member for more than forty years.
Heath was born in Ranger, Texas, on February 6, 1920. He married Elizabeth Campbell Heath and they had one daughter, Janie. Elizabeth Heath died in 1984 and Heath married Linda Formet-Heath in 1986. The couple was married until her death in 2006.
Services will be held Thursday, April 12, at 1 p.m. at RiverPlace in Freeport with the Rev. Gary McCormick officiating. The service will be preceded by a reception at 11 a.m. A burial service will follow at Restwood Cemetery in Clute. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 11, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home in Clute. Pallbearers will include Don Benefiel, Freddie Gallardo, Norman Landry, Rex Maugans, Dan Tarver, and Robert Vickers. Honorary pallbearers include John Baxter, Jason Gallardo and Charles Updike.

Glenn was one of the pillars of strength at our church. He will be missed by so many of his church members and his many friends in the community. God be with you today and always Glenn.
