Garry Dean Howard, 72, of Houston, passed away February 16, 2013, after battling heart failure and lung cancer. Visitation is Friday, February 22 from 7-9 pm and services on Saturday, February 23 at 10am at Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson with Charles Logan officiating. Interment will follow at Restwood Memorial Park in Clute.

Garry, the youngest of 8 children, was born May 28, 1940, in Mound Township, Illinois to Francis and Glen Howard.


He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois Lenora Ramsey Howard, daughter, Sheila Jolene Howard; sisters, Eileen Patterson and Barbara Howard Phillips; brother, Don Howard; and nephews, David Howard and Rick Simper.


He is survived by his son Billy Ross Howard, of Houston; sister, Edna Maxcine Hartsfield, of Houston; and brothers, Larry Howard, of Houston, Ralph Howard, of Abilene and Archie Howard, of Shelby, NC.


Garry moved to Lake Jackson in 1951 and would later move to Oklahoma. He would move back to Lake Jackson in the early 1960s, where he met his wife. They were married on October 31, 1964.


He worked for The Trading Post in Freeport, Sears and Jack Reed Appliances in Lake Jackson. He worked for Heath Refrigeration in Angleton before opening the family business in 1976, Howard Appliance Service. After his wife's death, he closed his business and moved to Houston. He worked for AABC Appliance until he retired in 2002. He enjoyed fishing, arcade games and supporting the Brazoswood Band Boosters.


His family and friends could count on him to always lend a helping hand when he could. His favorite pastime though was playing Canasta with his wife's family. In his later years, he enjoyed meeting new friends at the Bellaire Coffee Shop.


Pallbearers will be Destry Howard, Jason Haney, Robert Ramsey, Chris Garcia, Dennis Searcy and Mark Bilecki. Honorary pallbearers will be Nicholas Haney and Nate Garcia.
